I've been checking into why my ecommerce tracking isn't working in Google Analytics, and installed Google Tag Assistant chrome extension to make sure my tag was showing up correctly on my site.
In checking this, it does, but when I clicked on a product and went to a product page, my tag and a second completely different tag showed up as well??
Why would this be? Is it something to do with a Shopify App I've installed maybe?
Second question - why would my ecommerce tracking not be working. Seems like a simple set up to me. I've ticked enhanced ecommerce tracking in both Shopify and google analytics
Hey, Marcus!
Karlie here from the Shopify Guru Team! I've read through your question and I believe that I have some suggestions as to why you may be seeing some discrepancies with Google Analytics and your Shopify Admin.
The reasoning behind why you're seeing multiple tags could be a result of the use of the Google Pay payment gateway. If you're using the Google Pay dynamic checkout with your storefront and you have that enabled, then you might see an extra tag on your storefront pages that contain the Google Pay button. Multiple tags can also be a result of you creating different tags or triggers from within your Google Tag Manager, so you'll want to check into your Tag Manager as well.
As for the issues you're seeing with your tracking - there can be discrepancies with Google Analytics. If you happen to have any additional Javascript added in your Shopify Admin > Online Store> Preferences section then that could be one of the reasons you are experiencing inaccurate data. A good rule of thumb is, if you're not sure what the Javascript is for then you may want to remove that script for a couple of days to see if that effects the data you've been tracking.
If you've enabling Google Analytics more than once in your Shopify Admin, then that can actually result in inaccurate data as well. You'll want to go through a couple of our Shopify guides to troubleshoot on your end. Then, if you're still experiencing issues - just get back to me here or feel free to reach out to our support team and we would be happy to help! Be sure to check out our discrepancy guide here; Analytics Discrepancies as well as our Setting up Google Analytics guide - which can help with troubleshooting.
I hope this helps, but if you have any further questions - be sure to ask and I would be happy to help!
