Hello

I am trying to verify my website with the Google search console. It says that I have to type in the TXT file name. Can anybody tell me where I can find this file.

Thanks   @john260

Hey John,

Go to Google Search Console:

Log in to Google Search Console.

Add your Shopify store's URL as a new property.

Choose Domain Verification:

Choose Domain verification method (which requires adding a TXT record).

Google will provide you with a TXT record that you need to add to your domain's DNS settings. Copy the entire TXT record.

Access Shopify Domain Settings:

In Shopify, go to Online Store > Domains from your Shopify admin panel.

Click on the domain you're using (if you're using a third-party domain like GoDaddy, follow the instructions for your domain provider).

Edit DNS Settings:

Scroll down to the DNS settings section and click on Manage.

Click on Add custom record, then select TXT from the dropdown.

Add the TXT Record:

In the Name field, leave it blank or put "@" depending on what Shopify or your domain provider suggests.

In the TXT Value field, paste the TXT record you copied from Google Search Console.

Set the TTL (time-to-live) to the default or leave it as is.

Save:

Save the DNS changes.

Verify in Google Search Console:

Go back to Google Search Console and click on Verify.

It may take a few minutes to an hour for Google to verify the domain.

Hi @john260

To verify your website with Google Search Console using a TXT file, you’ll need to add a TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings, not an actual file. Here’s how you can do it step-by-step:

1. Get the TXT Verification Code from Google Search Console

  • Go to Google Search Console and select Add Property.
  • Choose Domain as the property type if you want to verify the entire domain, or URL prefix for just one specific URL: https://prnt.sc/PTUwJOic-KEj
  • Google will provide a unique TXT record code that looks something like: google-site-verification=XXXXXX.

2. Access Your Domain's DNS Settings

  • Log into your domain registrar (the place where you bought your domain, like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or the domain settings within Shopify).
  • Go to the DNS settings or DNS Zone File.

3. Add the TXT Record

  • In your DNS settings, look for an option to add a new record. Choose TXT as the record type.
  • For Host, enter @ (or leave it blank, depending on your domain provider's instructions).
  • In the TXT Value or Content field, paste the Google verification code (e.g., google-site-verification=XXXXXX).
  • Save the changes.

4. Verify in Google Search Console

  • After you’ve added the TXT record, go back to Google Search Console and click Verify.
  • It may take a few minutes or even up to 24 hours for the DNS changes to propagate, so if it doesn’t verify immediately, wait a bit and try again later.

Once verified, you’ll be able to use Google Search Console to monitor your site’s performance in search results.

Let me know if you have any questions on this process!

Best regards,
Daisy
