SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hi all,
I just have a quick question that we are looking for advice on.
Years ago, we had another website where all the size varients were on one listing on our website and then we bought another website (closed down the old website and merged the two). The website we bought, had all size varients on separate listing so you'd search through collections and you'd see below as an example.
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey 908g
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey 1.2kg
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey 2kg
Rather than 1 listing that would say "Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey" and then all the sizes would be on that listing.
Which is the best way to do it? It would be one listing for all sizes and the customer can choose their size. I didn't know multiple variants on different listings would cause cannibalism within the SEO and goes against yourself when you're bidding on multiple keywords and having 3 links on google.
Example below of sizing on one listing below with all varients on 1 listing.
I hope I make sense and someone can advise the best way.
Thank you
Adam
Hi @AdamOx
For SEO and user experience purposes, I do think it is generally better to have all product variants listed on a single URL rather than creating separate URLs for each variant. Here’s why:
Having multiple URLs for variants of the same product can lead to keyword cannibalization (as you're saying), where your pages compete against each other for the same search terms, diluting your SEO efforts.
A single product page with all variants allows your customers to easily view and choose their preferred options without navigating through multiple pages. This enhances user experience and can lead to higher conversion rates.
With all variants on one page, all backlinks point to a single URL, improving the overall authority and ranking potential of that page. This approach maximizes the SEO benefits from your backlinks (if you have any).
A single URL structure reduces the load on search engine crawlers, making it easier for them to index your site efficiently, which can help improve your site's crawl budget and overall SEO health.
I hope that this helps!
