Website with ZERO backlinks, what should be first?

Hi everyone.

For a website that has zero backlinks, which do you think is more urgent, backlink building or SEO audit? My website has 0 backlinks now and I used tools like Surfer to revise the original content for SEO score but have not seen a difference so far.

I know both are important but what do you think should come first?

Is SEO audit meaningless without backlinks?

Personally, I would start with backlinks. Start with directories like Bing, Yelp, etc., and Google Business Profile. For some immediate and easy wins.

Absolutely. So this actually ties into your Google Business Profile as well because Google pulls info and reviews from those sites as well when it considers your ranking. 

Same concept on Bing and Yelp. Ensure profile completeness, pictures, hours, website links, etc. This will help create backlinks to your site. 

If a directory platform like Google Business Profile allows posting, make sure you're doing it once a week. Same concept as Social Media.
