When will Shopify GA4 integration be ready? https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-analytics-4 says by March. Can I change over my Google sales channel and remove UA to add GA4 yet?
I've successfully completed all the steps to connect the Google Analytics UA to GA4, but it's still not showing up with any of the correct data and $0 purchases which is so different to UA. Extremely frustrating and would like to know the best way to move forward and prepare for this.
As far as I know, you need to use Google Channel app. It's no longer natively supported.
Be careful using the app, because you should not use this if you already have an existing data feed app. In that case you will need to manually install GA4
I already have the google channel app set up and it's using an existing data feed to merchant centre.
So can I easily just go in and update the UA to GA4 in the Google app yet? Or what is the best way to manually install it?
I recommend contact Shopify directly regarding the app. If it does not migrate, then they may have issues.
There are ways to manually install, however it requires a lot of development if you do it yourself.
I do provide a service for this setup, however, if you want something for free, I recommend contact Shopify as according to the article it should already be available.
If you have the Google channel setup but do not want minimize the data that's pushed by it, you can setup a supplementary feed of your original feed. Any data that is in your supplementary feed will take precedence.
If you have any exclusions in your supplementary feed, you'll want to also exclude these products from the Google channel otherwise whatever the channel pushes for those products will remain.
Another criteria to consider is conversion tracking. The channel sets this up for you. If you have your own conversion code, you can log into Google Ads, then from the top-right > Conversions, disable the conversion events created by Shopify that you do not want (likely just the Purchase one.)
Hello @shannon-2483,

According to Shopify's documentation that you linked, the integration was expected to be available this month (March). You may want to keep an eye on Shopify's official announcements or contact their support team for more specific information.
Regarding your issue with GA4 not showing correct data and $0 purchases, it's possible that there could be a configuration issue or data discrepancy between GA4 and your Shopify store. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Verify that you have properly set up your GA4 integration with Shopify by following the steps outlined in Shopify's documentation.
2. Make sure that your GA4 property is receiving data from your Shopify store. You can check this by going to your GA4 property, selecting "Realtime" from the left-hand menu, and then checking if there are any active users on your website.
3. Check if there are any discrepancies between your Shopify and GA4 data by comparing the data in both platforms. If you notice any discrepancies, you can use GA4's debugging tools to identify and fix any data issues.
4. Consider seeking help from a Shopify expert or a GA4 specialist who can help you troubleshoot the issue and ensure that your data is properly configured.
In terms of switching from UA to GA4, it's important to note that GA4 is a new version of Google Analytics and has a different tracking code than UA. Therefore, if you switch over to GA4, you will need to update your tracking code on your website to ensure that data is properly collected. It's also important to thoroughly test GA4 before fully switching over to ensure that data is being collected accurately.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Gina
