SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
I have now been with Shopify for 10 years, in the last two years I spent thousands on Shopify experts the amounted to nothing. Outside help with my website etc....
Still for some reason I get very little traffic and no conversions. I recently reached out on people per hour for some help nine out of 10 or suggested I change my theme. Which is currently turbo latest version. Can someone please help me before I spend more money I'm trying to get this website to actually make me some money.
What am I doing wrong, what am I missing?
Is there someone out there honest that can actually help? Cause so far they've just taken my money and nothings happen.
Thank you
Amanda

Sorry just re-read your post - back links can be achieved by going on a high ranking website and gaining a link from them - personally I would recommend you do this yourself as you do not want spam links. Search engines will rank you on a spam score along with page authority and domain authority.
Some of the ways to gain these backlinks (for free or low cost) can come from social media (pinterest is a good one) - you can also upload to websites that allow you to add your own press releases - dependant upon the site you may have to pay to have the article put on the site however this is by far a great way of getting back links and will be cheaper than paying an agency.
Another way of getting good back links is to go on forums - the most underestimated website for this is Quora or Redditt - I have also used Mumsnet which gained me some good back links. All you have to do is look for questions that are related to your product and respond to the question - you can either add your full domain to the post or add your keyword, high light this and then link back to your website.
You can also get backlinks from Ebay and Etsy which are high authority sites - all you need to do is a about me page and again do the above. You dont even need to have a shop or sell items - all you need is an about me page and the link. You should also write a few paragraphs and only use the keywords once - if you over bulk on keywords then this will be seen as 'black hat seo' and keyword stuffing which will be frowned upon - you can always pay a writer to write good content also for this (this is something I do as I am not the best in this department).
In regards to 'meta tags'. From what I am aware these a pretty much redundant in google - I think possibly bing and yahoo still use them but you mainly want to be top in google so I would certainly do this yourself. Meta tags are very, very easy and you do not have to pay to add these. Just find out what your keywords are and add them using commas to that part of the page (I think in shopify it will be at the bottom of the page) - again if you struggle with keywords I would recommend Aherefs, SEMRUSH (They have a free trial) or use Keywords Everywhere and type into google your desired terms and they will come up with the variants. The same can be said for tittles and the description - just make sure your keywords are spaced for example 'Buy Gold Necklace Online Italy | Golden Chain Necklace With Pendant |
Another thing you can do with keywords which is very easy is to add them to the alt text of your images. To do this simply click the image and it will say 'edit alt text' so if you wanted to target 'Golden Necklace Chain Italy' you would put this in the meta tag, meta description, in the description on the page and also the alt text for one of your images.
I have no idea about your theme, the only thing I will say is that its pretty poor on Shopifys behalf if not all the themes are good for converting and you HAVE to pay for a better theme that will... That seems a bit like exploiting the platform so I would possibly reach out to them and see what they think...
As I say if I were you Id try and get some of this done myself and have a look on fiver to see if there are people on there for less money but can give you the same service.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I didn’t think it looked that bad either! I paid for a company called Zargo in Sweden one of Shopify‘s so-called experts to do some work six months ago with speeding up the website and they tell me that the only website Testigo buys this one.https://analyze.speedboostr.com/queue/gbwbmmmu4q
here as you can see it gives me an A so not sure what the issue is.
other website developers yet again on Shopify experts tell me that I have issues with meta tags and titles. I literally don’t know who to believe anymore! And then others tell me my theme is old although it’s turbo latest version, and then I need a new theme and this will fix my problems.
aghhh I’m in italy
Hi I am in no way an expert on this and I am pretty much in a similar boat to you (our site is www.bbqboxuk.com)... so the only real advise I could give you is from a perspective customer, I would say for the price of the items your market will be from 30 years+. I think the site is beautiful and the branding is well done, I do think however that you have a lot of celebrity endorsement that should be a) on the home page and b) on the actual product pages of the items (as if SEO is done correctly this is where customer will go to first). If I where you I would really sing this from the hills, add it to Pinterest and Instagram and make sure you tag the celebrity in question along with hash tag the posts so they get a good amount of exposure.
I would possibly also look into sending the items via a tracked service due to their prices (not sure if you do actually offer this) but I would think that having 'free tracked shipping in the EU' would sound a lot more safer and put more confidence in purchasing.
I cant see a blog on your site - I would possibly look into doing one, even just a post a week - you could even speak about the celebrities that you have had endorsements from?? If you are stuck for time then there are writers on fiverr - I have used this lady before and she is extremely good (her name is Janeeh from 5 er) - her work is very well written and you can tell her the keywords you want to focus on (you will need to do the research in to this and tell her to only put the keywords in up to 5 times in a 1500 word piece). By the way I am in no way connected/affiliated with this lady I can only say I have used her 3 times for another website and was impressed with what she wrote for me...
Other than this its hard to say what else could be the issue without looking into your metrics - I would certainly research anything further very thoroughly before paying for help as I think your site is great. Its just getting it in front of the right audience. Have you thought into looking for paid directory listings like Shopping directory A-Z listing of shops: Online shopping is easy with ShopSafe, the UK shops directo...? This could help in 2 ways - it will promote the fact that your site is deemed 'safe' and also will give you a high authority back link - again I am in no way affiliated with these companies/people - its just what I have looked into.
I really hope that this has helped? I know with my own business that when you are trying to get it going in your spare time, its very hard to look past it (as you are constantly doing it) - so I hope this will help a little. As I say I am in the same boat as you, we have had an Etsy store for over a year which has done really well (so I know my products are good and customers want them), the website went live 3 weeks ago and it is very hard trying to get traffic - I know its early days, but I did think we would of had more than what we have had. If you get chance to take a look would be grateful for any feedback you may have 🙂
Thanks so much for your kind words and help. I'm in Italy so those sites don't work for me, also as i dont have a physical shop.
As for celebs, trust me when they 1st came out It was all over my socials and tagged. But most of them are old.
I was told the issues are backlinks, meta tags and titles $700 they wanted to fix this plus they told me to change my theme as the current site wasn't user friendly. I'm so sick of being pushed by Shopify and shopify experts to buy new seems higher experts and spend more money. I'm at the point of closing down with Shopify completely and going to another provider. Thank you for your very valid points I will look into them I do tag on social et cetera I did have a bloke at one point but all that was doing is bringing people reading the blogs and that's it not bringing any more sales
No problem, as I say I am no expert. I think possibly look deeper into who your market actually is and see how those people interact with social platforms and buying on the web?
Personally I can see no fault with your website so it must be SEO related and possibly that the site is not being showed to the people most likely to buy. How do you market the site? Personally before paying for anything further I would look into pay per click marketing - if you are going to pay money for experts why not look into this form of marketing and get help for free from a google accounts specialist?
It sounds like you have put an awful lot of money and time into SEO so this would be the next stage I would think and maybe look for similar directories in your main markets that you can join up to - also do you know who your competitors are? You could contact Ahrefs and see if they can help you by seeing what your competitors are doing to promote their businesses and do the same?
Lastly I follow a guy on youtube who is very good and goes through a lot of marketing strategies. His name is Elliot Prendy - his channel is really good and very inspirational - maybe take a look at some of his videos for some ideas on how to get the brand out there.
I really hope this helps - just thought I'd follow up as I know how you feel and it isn't nice. I can really appreciate the hard work you have put into your website and feel that you can do this without paying stupid amounts for little gain - pay per click should at least break even and then you can set up funnels to recapture the lost customers with discount codes etc... its just finding out who those customers are... all the best and don't give up! 🙂

OMG your amazing! 😁 Wish you could do all this for me! I'm a little crap at these side of things , coding scares me. This is exactly what I need someone to do for me! all of the above!!!!
Can't thank you enough!!!

Hello, I have had a look at your store and here are a few suggestions on how it can be improved even further
1) The sticky header would be much better if it was a bit bigger. A bigger size would make it easier for the customers to access and much more appealing.
2) You seem to already have a section for latest arrivals so you should create one for best sellers. These are the two categories that customers look out for when they visit a store so it is best to have them separate from the crowd.
3) Put an add to cart button on each product page. This would help to motivate your customers to add products that they like to their carts which in turn can lead to sales. You can download the add to cart button app here https://apps.shopify.com/add-to-cart
4) Add a FAQ page. This would help provide answers to questions that your customers would most likely have about your business. It is also a good avenue to showcase your knowledge on the business and its products.
I wish you and your business the best of luck!
Hey Amanda
I really like your logo and the website is good. Your products seem fairly high end so you would need to target people with money!
It seems like you're not getting the right audience to your store which is why you're not getting conversions.
Have you tried registering and connecting your store to channels like Facebook, Google Shopping and Upurr?
I would recommend connecting to Upurr if you haven't as this is a pretty new tool that drives targeted UK shoppers directly to your store and also offers in app purchases. Its free to register and connect and only take 10-15mins.
You say you've spent thousands on Shopify Experts, do you know what insights they discovered regarding your marketing strategy? Ensure you get as much information as possible from them regarding what information they obtained in their efforts to drive traffic.
Hope you start getting conversions soon.
