SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hello!
After having trouble getting my blog indexed on google, I contacted the shopify support and got this answer:
"Shopify stores automatically generate a sitemap.xml file that contains links to all your products, primary product image, pages, etc.. This file is used by search engines like Google and Bing to index your site so that your store's pages appear in search results. Submitting your sitemap files to Google Search Console helps Google find and index pages on your site. Since you're on the basic plan, only your store's primary domain has a generated sitemap file and is discoverable by search engines, therefore it makes sense for the blog-page to not be indexed. In order to make your blog-page Google-supported, you would have to upgrade your plan to the Shopify, Advanced Shopify, or Shopify Plus plan"
So as I understood, my blog wont be indexed if I am on a Basic plan. But why would this happen, I just started out and now need to upgrade my plan?
Also, some days afterwards, I entered the URL of my blog into the google search console and saw the:
Green Checkmark URL is on google
So what is happening here?
Kind regards
This is the most common issue, so many people have the same blog indexing issue.
Hello @drazze,
You need to upgrade Shopify plan to higher ONLY if you use international domains and you need to submit the sitemap file for each domain. For any Shopify plan (even for Basic plan), Shopify creates sitemap file which is used by search engines like Google and Bing to index your site so that your store's pages appear in search results.
You can submit your sitemap to Google from Google Search Console. Submitting a sitemap will make it easier for the search engines to crawl all of your site’s pages and ensure that all of your important pages have the opportunity to rank. Take the time to generate and submit a sitemap to ensure that your pages are ready for search engines and users.
There can be many reasons why your pages are not found on Google.
1. Make sure you disable the password to restrict access to your online store.
2. You are blocking the page with a robots.txt file
Make sure you are not blocking the pages in robots.txt
3. A noindex directive
If the code <meta name="robots" content="no index"> exists, it won't allow Google to index the specific page. Make sure the code doesn't exist in head section of the particular page.
4. If your site is new, it might take time for Google to crawl or index it.
It can take time for Google to index your page; allow at least a week after submitting a sitemap or a submit to index request before assuming a problem. If your page or site change is recent, check back in a week to see if it is still missing.
5. Make sure your store is mobile-friendly
A mobile-friendly website is critical to getting your site indexed by Google since it introduced Mobile-First indexing. No matter how great the content on your website is, if it’s not optimized for viewing on a smartphone or tablet, you’re going to lose rankings and traffic.
6. Your site has minimal content
Well-written content is critical for succeeding on Google. If you have minimal content that doesn’t at least meet your competition’s levels, then you may have significant issues.
