Checkout UI Extensions Thank you page tutorial doesn't work

I've been trying to figure out how to test the Thank-you page survey tutorial shopify has on their dev docs but this step is not working for me. I'm unable to view the currently in progress app even after installing it in my test store. When I attempt to "add app" within the checkout page editor the dev app isn't shown. I have checkout extensions preview enabled and the app is installed in a development test store. Any ideas what else is needed or is this a known issue?

Turns out the default shop that gets created by Shopify is a test shop which isn't the same as a developer shop. I had to create another shop with developer and checkout extensions beta preview enabled then everything worked. I think it should be noted in the docs that this default shop isn't a developer shop as that was unclear for me and our team. Problem solved though!
