Error on the Tokengating example app

I cloned the https://github.com/Shopify/tokengating-example-app example token gating app and followed the setup process exactly. The app + extension were deployed without any major issues. However, after tokengating a product, I do not see the "Connect Wallet" button, and it says 'product is not gated' even though it is. I have tried this with both a new account and a new store on a different machine. Can anyone help out?
