Payment App Extension - Unable to start a new payment session

We have developed a payment app extension and trying to test some payments on a test store.

When we simulate a failed transaction (Entering Failed Test Card Details) on the third party provider (our external gateway) , we send the Payment Session Reject to shopify indicating that the payment failed.

However now from shopify, we are redirected to this page below and cannot seem to initiate a new payment request. This error keeps coming up and we are not allowed to retry the transaction. Have tried to even amend amount in checkout but still getting the same error. Can someone assist?

Not even an acknowledgement of this issue, and this is still happening in 2022.
