Covers all questions related to inventory management, order fulfillment, and shipping.
Hello,
We have an Online Shop as well as a Brick and Mortar Shop. The inventory we input on our Shopify Online system is also our Brick and Mortar inventory, we do not use two separate inventory systems.
E.g. We have 10 inventory in our Item: Chocolate caramel boxes on our Online shop and POS. Someone buys 1 in our Brick and Mortar shop, and 1 online, our inventory for that item now shows that we have 8 Caramel Boxes.
For our busy periods like Christmas, Valentines and Easter we introduce PRE ORDERS, both Online and in our Brick and Mortar.
When someone purchases a Pre order item, we do not want this to affect our Inventory level of this item.
Does anyone know a solution to this problem? An app, A workaround?
In the past we have had to create a new item for every single item we stock. E.g. Item: Caramel Box PLUS Item: PRE ORDER Caramel Box. Which would have it's own separate inventory (e.g. we know that we can only make x amount for pre orders - once those have been fulfilled, no one can purchase more of the pre order item). This is very much of a faff however both online and in our Brick and Mortar.
Is there a way to add a button to an existing item (both online and on POS), which despite an item being in stock or not - says "buy for Pre-Order" and by clicking this button, it does not affect the inventory levels of the item, and would have its own Inventory levels? Also - this option wouldn't be there all the time, it would be something we could show or hide depending on the season (or perhaps could say "Item not open for Pre-orders")
We also take pre-orders in our Brick and Mortar Shop, not just online. We do it through the shopify POS system, so we input all the items a customer would like, take their name and email (and address if posting) and we have to remember to un-click the "fulfil items" button, so that the order comes up as "unfulfilled" and highlighted.
This is a very clunky system - again if staff error occurs and they forget to print this order in the moment, or forget to un-click the fulfil item button the order gets lost in the system, and there will be a very unhappy customer.
Is there a work around, or an app that when a customer (online or bricks and mortar) has a Pre-Order item in their cart - that the whole order automatically gets labelled as "unfulfilled" and highlighted in yellow?
We would also like a little message to pop up either when a Pre-ordered item is selected, or at the end when the customer goes to pay with a Pre-order item in the bag - to let the customer know information about our Pre-ordering. (e.g. timescale for pre-ordered items).
If anyone has any advice or help with these matters it would be very much appreciated - even if its another clunky work around to what is not currently available. Thank you!
I'm not too sure if an app would be able to do all of this specifically, but first thing that came to mind as a workaround was for you to create a new Location for pre-order stock, and set the quantity there? I think that's the only way to have a separate inventory count in Shopify (outside of an app keeping its own inventory numbers, which seems unlikely and unreliable).
You'd then need to figure out how to sell from only that Location when doing "pre-orders".
You're welcome to try a pre-order app (I built a pretty good one!), but they generally won't be able to support this level of customization and specific flow. It might need to be a custom built solution.
