Completing Payment through Checkout API Using Stripe Token Results in Fraud Indicators

Greetings,

We are a sales channel app (with permissions to use the checkout API). We are able to successfully create checkouts, and process payments using Stripe tokens for our checkouts. However, when the orders are created for the brands we partner with there is a fraud notification "A payment method other than credit card was used". This has cause some of our partners to have pause about placing these orders as it elevates the risk level of the order.

Why are our orders flagged in this manner by the fraud detection system? The stripe token we give Shopify does represent a credit card. You can even see other indicators that passed the fraud detection; "card verification vale is correct", "billing street address matches credit card's registered address", etc. So in these other instances, the data from the credit card is being used to validate the order, but somehow it indicates the order wasn't made with a credit card?

Hey @jbgrunewald ,

The indicator "A payment method other than a credit card was used" is simply the indicator that is thrown when the checkout used to purchase the item has a credit card count of 0 associated to it. It does not mean that the order has a higher risk level or is more likely to be fraudulent, it is merely just an indicator we have on the order. The other indicator message we can put instead of this is "Payment was made with 1 credit card" or "Payment was attempted with %{count} credit cards". So all that to say, these are just indicators on the order and are not necessarily signs of higher fraud risk.

I know from past experience that this indicator can sometimes be raised when completing an order of 0.00. If this is not the case for you, could you DM me more information about your sales channels and orders in which you see this issue happening? That way I could investigate further why this is happening

@hassain Thanks, I just sent over a direct message with some example orders we placed. We are eager to understand this issue to prevent any issues with fulfillment of our orders. I can confirm that no order would be for $0.00. Please let me know if there's any other information that might be helpful.
