Send Marketing Confirmation Email

I´m building a headless shop with API´s and on the start page of this shop there will be a "Subscribe to Newsletter" - Field where the customer can input its email. The customer should get an confirmation email afterwards. Is it possible without creating a new customer? I know its possible using the createCustomer endpoint. But then the customer cannot register afterwards with the same email.
