Re: multiple domains per country or one

Can one Shopify store serve multiple countries with different products?

I own a Shopify store and I want to sell in more than one country. Each country has different products. Do I need to open a store for each country, or is there a way to work on one store?

Hey, @printeey.

Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!

I understand that you're looking to sell in more than one country and you're also offering different products for each country. While you can sell in multiple countries and connect up to 20 domains using one store, it could be better to create separate stores since you want to offer different products and I'd be happy to touch on that further.

You can use shipping profiles to control which products are available to ship to in certain countries and this also allows you to combine the rates at checkout from different profiles. However, this doesn't hide the products on the online store from customers visiting from a country where the product isn't available, so the customers will still see the product on the store before discovering that the product doesn't have an available shipping rate after entering their address. Nevertheless, you can consider using an additional third-party app, called GeoLocation: Product Blocker, to overcome this and prevent certain products from appearing for customers based on their locations.

If you're using Shopify Payments, then you do have the option to sell in multiple currencies. However, this may not be the case if you're using a third-party gateway as they might not have a similar option, so having multiple stores may be more beneficial for currency considerations.

I'd love to hear more about your business! What kinds of products do you sell? How many countries are you looking to sell in?

Hey, @printeey.

Thank you for following up!

If you're looking to offer different products for each country, then it might be easier to have separate stores as it could be easier for you when it comes to setting up the shipping rates, taxes, etc. On top of that, you can also consider having a couple of stores and having each store handle multiple regions (eg. Canada and the US).

That being said, since you're just starting out, then it may be best to start with one store and see how your products perform in various markets. You can also sell to international markets/countries using one store with Shopify Markets as well. After you gather some performance data for your products, then you can decide whether or not you want to manage separate stores for those regions. As previously mentioned, you can use GeoLocation: Product Blocker to control the product availability for each region.

How is your store development coming along? Do you plan to start running ad campaigns? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
