card reader in merida. mexico

Just recieved the Chipper 2X BT.  Will it work in Merida Mexico. Can I take credit card payments from people in Merida?

Thanks for reaching out to the Community with your POS reader question. Unfortunately, this 2X BT reader will not work in Mexico. This is because the store's location, currency, and Shopify Payment account needs to match with the origin location of the reader. With Mexico not being a supported region for Shopify Payments, and there being no Mexico-based Shopify hardware store to order this reader from, it won't work to process payments in your location. 

Instead, you'll want to look for a third party card reader that is also able to process transactions. We have some documents explaining this information, along with explaining how to setup up this reader for use with your store, linked here for you.

Do you mind me asking where you purchased this reader from? Was it from one of our online hardware stores? Why were you looking to get a reader - are you opening up a brick and mortar location in Merida, or are you looking to start doing some pop-up sales?
