Collabs - Do Creators have to pay international VAT/import tax on gifts?

Hello!

I have used Shopify Collabs successfully so far, but I have a question on working with international creators.

We're a US-based company and we have only worked with US creators so far. We are interested in working with a Canadian creator, but I was wondering if they would be on the hook to pay VAT or import duties on any gifted promo items sent to them? It would be sent as a 'gift' through the Shopify Collabs platform. I'd like to know before the proceeding with the collab to avoid any issues that may arise.

We currently ship with Shopify's fulfillment system, which does not support prepaid duties.

Bias but i would use https://apps.shopify.com/creator-gift-link for sending gifts to influencers no matter where they are because it just creates a $0 order in your store and you control the shipping. When you use an all-in-1 influencer platform the fulfillment is not so flexible
