Dear community

I had an online-shop which I moved to a new domain, new products etc. My old shop was moss-art and now I am selling watersports equipment. The problem is now, that when I change from German to English it still show the old translation on the home-page. This is disturbing my rankings on google as well. Does anyone knows how I can change that?

Website: wavacy.com

what I already tried:

- uninstall Translate App

- trying other translation Apps

I can't find this text anywhere to be changed...

Anyone ever experienced this?

Hi @leandroluessi

I totally get how frustrating this can be, especially when you're trying to rebrand and your old store’s content is still showing up. It sounds like some cached translations or hardcoded text might still be lingering on your site. Let's go through a few things you can check and fix this issue.

Why is this happening?

Since you moved your store and changed your products, it’s possible that:

  1. The old translations are stored in Shopify’s theme files or metafields.
  2. The translation app you used left residual data in your store's theme or Shopify’s language settings.
  3. Google is caching old pages, causing outdated translations to appear.

How to fix it?

1. Check Shopify's Built-in Translations

  • Go to Settings > Languages in Shopify.
  • Make sure English is selected as an active language.
  • Look for any outdated translations in the "Translated Content" section.
  • If you see old translations, delete them or update them manually.

2. Inspect Your Theme Code for Hardcoded Translations

Some translations might be stored directly in your theme files, especially in locales/*.json files.

  • Go to Online Store > Themes > Edit Code
  • Open locales/en.default.json (or any other language files like de.json)
  • Use CTRL + F (or Command + F on Mac) to search for old store terms like "moss-art" or any text that shouldn’t be there.
  • If you find old text, update or remove it and save.

3. Clear Shopify Metafields

  • Some apps store translations in metafields. Use an app like Metafield Guru or Shopify's built-in Metafield editor to check and remove any old metafields related to your previous store.
  • Go to Settings > Custom Data (Metafields) and look for old translations.

4. Flush Out Google’s Cache

  • Your old translations may still appear in search results because Google has cached them.
  • Submit your new sitemap in Google Search Console and request URL removal for old pages.

5. Clear Your Browser & Shopify Cache

  • Sometimes, outdated content is just being cached by your browser or Shopify. Try:
    • Incognito Mode to see if the issue still exists.
    • Clearing your browser cache.
    • Use Shopify's ?preview_theme_id= trick to force a refresh of the store.

6. Test with a Different Translation App

  • If you've removed translation apps but the issue persists, try installing Shopify Translate & Adapt (Shopify’s official app) to manually override old translations.
  • This ensures that new translations take priority over any leftover data from previous apps.

Final Thoughts

Since you've already uninstalled the translation app and tried other apps, the issue is likely coming from Shopify's built-in translation settings, theme files, or metafields. Go through these steps and you should be able to fix it. If none of these work, you might need a developer to check deeper in your theme’s code.

If you need extra help, just let me know asap. Thanks
Daisy.
