Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
Hello,
I am currently based in Bulgaria but want to start selling in the US.I've managed to sort out everything apart from the legal part. Can someone familiar explain what are the steps to set up a store and payment processor legally eligible and what the requirements are?
Hi @ivokarad,
Thank you for getting in touch. If you and your business are based in Bulgaria, you'll want to research your own country's laws on starting a business as well as those determined by the EU. Most countries have a relatively low barrier to entry for merchants looking to get started with a new business, but it's good to know prior to starting what the requirements are.
Do you plan on shipping products from outside the United States into the country? If so, you'll also want to consider rules around importing goods and associated taxes and duties. I would also recommend looking into the varying sales tax thresholds for different US states, as these are charged on the state level and vary on a state-by-state basis. If you are importing goods into the United States and do not have a physical presence there then you will likely not need to charge sales taxes until you meet certain economic thresholds, although this is general advice and we would always recommend speaking with a tax professional if you are unsure of your obligations. The same applies to tax and business laws in your own country and jurisdiction.
