Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
Hi,
I have installed the Translate & Adapt app from shopify. My default language is French and I added English.
How do I translate the page URLs? For example, one of my pages is /pages/location-de-voiture and I would also like to have /pages/car-rental
How to modify the "Page Title", "Description" and "URL and Handle" for the Search engine listing preview to have both languages ? My English speaking visitors cant land on /pages/location-de-voiture because its in french..
Also, Are they redirected automatically from browser language ? If they need to manually select their language, thats not the best option.
Thank you for your help!

I'm pleased to say that this has now progressed from beta to be generally available via the Translate & Adapt app for products, collections, articles, and pages. Thank you all for the interest and testing; it's been instrumental to this going live. https://changelog.shopify.com/posts/translate-resource-url-handles-for-different-languages

Hi @TechGuy55
Hope that helps! Rich

You are saying:
"URL translation isn't possible currently. It's being considered."
This is a very important function Shopify is missing to really compete with the multistore capabilities of Woocommerce and Magento. If you guys fix this it would be a big step in seo for shopify. Do you know if and when this is ready?
Functionality should include:
- tranlate product urls
- translate collection urls
- translate blog urls
Hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks @fwegberts1 - this is definitely a high value feature that we're aware of, but we can't currently give a firm idea of when it will be addressed just yet.

I would also really appreciate this feature, i just moved over from wordpress/woocommerce where I was able to do this with WPML app and would like to do it in Shopify too to help my SEO.
I found wordpress + woocommerce + elementor to be too slow and buggy

Hi there, I too want to participate in this beta feature. Yesterday I filled the details in the form you provided but I didn't get an email or anything... so what happens after filling out the form? Is the feature available for me now or do I have to do anything? Thank you for your help 🙂

Hello @richbrown_staff !
We have an issue with Translate and Adapt that could very well get fixed with that beta feature, we submitted the google form, is it possible to get access to it and how?
Best,
H
I would like to have translated urls asap. Much better for SEO performance in Europe.
Please put me on the list for Beta testing.
I have two Shopify shops:

Hello Rich,
I also filled out the form. Is the testing still ongoing?
I also just filled in the form. When will you process them?
When do you know that you have been added to the beta pool
@richbrown_staff its working well for product urls. Do you know when we can translate collection/page urls? More important!

Hello @richbrown_staff
I do not see those options anywhere on the translate & adapt app
Is it necessary to uninstall and reinstall it?
Best,
H
Hi @FUPN , shouldn't be any need to reinstall. On a product's page in Translate & Adapt, do you see something called URL handle like in this screenshot?

Unfortunately this does not solve my issue 😕
I have a button leading to a quizz iframe https://3c691c-2.myshopify.com/cart#quiz-QYHzWy
This quizz is in french so to have version in other languages I had to make duplicates of that quizz that are in other languages so they have a different code for example #quiz-XXXXX instead of #quiz-QYHzWy
I made a page specifically for redirection there so I could use your app on that page (let's call it mystore/pages/redirect) so then In adapt and translate I could replace "redirect" by "redirect#quiz-XXXX" and have the quizz pop up in the right language but the URL translation thing does not allow me to use # and thus completely prevent me from being able to redirect to the right iframe
Another problem I have which would also solve my current issue is that I created a section in Shogun and unlike the pages created in Shogun it is completely undetected by the Translate and Adapt plugin
The section is not translated and there is no way to manually translate it anywhere
Hi Richbrown, we dont see the URL - store name canyon-offroad-nz is this something still being published to all markets?
Hi @PPDPaul currently it's for translations rather than for localising by market. E.g. I can translate to French, but can't have pants in the USA and trousers in the UK as the URL slug. What was the use case you had in mind?

I was very much hoping to use the feature to redirect to different URLS (collections) based on the market. We exist in multiple english speaking countries but need to point to different landpages (collections) based on market (or geolocation)... Suggestions??
Thanks @PPDPaul , could you give an example of what you would want to happen? Customer from X country lands on Y page, and Z happens?
One thing you might want to check is contextualising your templates based on market. In the Online Store Editor you'll now see a context selector where you can change specific pages / templates by market.

I sure can! I appreciate the help.
Customer X is from Australia.
He lands on '4x4 Bullbars' this is a collection.
Customer Y is from New Zealand.
He sees a different translated page due to the market
When he clicks on '4x4 Bullbars' link I need him to go '4x4 Bullbars NZ' (also a collection) which is setup to exclude australian only products and/or includes products specific to his market only.
Is this possible?
Absolutely. It's done via Markets and product exclusions. To see an example, head here: https://defaultglobal.com/collections/featured-products (demo store) and change your country in the selector at the bottom between United States and Canada. You'll see different products. Create a collection with all the product you want across both markets, then go to Settings > Markets > Australia > Products and pricing to exclude the ones you don't want in Australia, and same for New Zealand. You can also tailor your copy for each market with Translate & Adapt, by selecting Adapting English for Australia, or Adapting English for New Zealand, on the relevant collection.

Hi,
If I can jump in here.. We want to translate URLs for one of our market and see if it helps with SEO (without trying to translate the whole site as it breaks few other things for layout).
So, our collection page has URL like /collections/women-shoes and we want to change this to /collections/zapatos-de-mujer. As per Google Search console, we have users searching for spanish term and we think just changing the URL handle for the market without full site being in spanish can still help with the SEO.
Thanks,
Rockey
We'd love to hear your results @Rockey

We can't do this as we don't see collection URL handle when we try to adapt for Mexico market.. I need to do this with one language.. I should have been clear. I was trying to explain why we need URL handle Translation capability for adapting for a market while keeping just one language (English in this case)
Ah ok so you want, in English, to have a Spanish URL just for the Mexico market, to test impact of URL alone?
To learn more visit the Shopify Help Center or the Community Blog.
Yes please.. That's what we want
Hello, Why I do not see URL handle like in the screenshot?
Not in my Shop...... Nice, I build 20 different languages with 20 different landing url's... but can not translate the url blog names...
Hey @metrop , your store doesn't appear to have Translate & Adapt installed

Hey @richbrown_staff, is it possible to upload a file to the app, which then automatically changes the URL's of the respective products? We have over 2000 products in our store. I would really prefer not to go into each individual product and edit them one by one. Thank you for your help.
Hi @katja_k , we haven't built for bulk uploads in this first release, nor included URLs in auto-translation as yet, but here is a workaround. Let me know if you have problems.

Hello!
Is it somehow possible to translate also the part of URLs that says "/products/", "/collections/", "/pages/" etc, not just the end part? These words should be translated too to make the URLs truly local.
