How to add US bank account from Australia?

Hey, I'm launching my store in about 13 days.

And while I reside in AUS, most of my customers will be in the US and my suppliers are in the US - so I'd like to receive US currency into a US account. Which I can do from AUS via a Wise US banking account.

But I don't appear to be able to add US bank details to Shopify... only AUS ones? Has anyone been able to resolve this? Thanks.

Hi @dadserious

Thank you for reaching out here for help.

I understand that you are wondering how you can use a US bank account and get payouts in USD, while having your store in Australia. I would be happy to clarify this for you.

It sounds like you are using Shopify Payments on your store in Australia, is that correct? Generally, your bank account and payouts would be linked to the region your store is located, not where most of your customers purchase from. Part of the requirements for using Shopify Payments AUS, is that the bank account must be with a bank in Australia and be in AUD currency. With that in mind, it would not be possible to simply connect a US bank account and get paid in USD instead, while still using Shopify Payments in Australia. You can read more about the requirements here.

In certain cases, it may be possible to use Shopify Payments in another region e.g. your store in Australia using Shopify Payments US. However, the Shopify Payments account requirements are region specific, so in order to be eligible you would need to provide valid personal and business registration information for the US region. Essentially, your business would need to have a physical presence on US soil, and be able to support this with verification documents. Feel free to refer to this Shopify Community post, where I explain these requirements in detail.

You mentioned that you are launching in a few weeks - that's an exciting time! How is everything going so far with the preparations? We actually have a great checklist here that you can refer to, as it will help you with the things to look out for before launching your store.

Hey Rick,

Thanks for the quick response.

A physical presence in the US isn't on the cards at these early stages, so it sounds like I'll need to just deal with the conversion fees. Speaking of, if the majority of customers pay in USD (I'm expecting), and Shopify pays me out in AUD - am I charged a conversion fee?

Thanks for the checklist (btw on mobile it looks like staggeringly long list of articles rather than a checklist). I appear to have ticked 99% all the way up to "Test your online store" as I was hoping to test it with a US bank. So aside from that one thing... looking good!
