How to export Translate & Adapt translations to CSV?

After installing the Translate & Adapt app and running the free translation on our store, I kindof expected all the translated product fields to show up in my CSV/Excel export of my products.

We have 50,000+ variants with a lot of similar terms that were not translated accurately.  Having to click on thousands of products online to change the same words over and over is not practical.

How can I export all the translation data in order to quickly search & replace?

Hi @mark_macrae_ , you go to Settings > Languages > Export. Out of interest, did this not work as you expect / did you find our help docs unclear? Feedback helps. Please let us know other challenges you come across, that's a lot of products and it can be unwieldy as the CSV splits into multiple files when it gets bigger than 10mb.

Thanks pointing me in the right direction.  I guess I had gone a step too far: I was already into the French language and there was no export option there.  The other way I was trying to get to it was via the product export, which we use extensively for bulk updates.

With CSVs we can do mass search/replace or write scripts to manipulate mass amounts of data.  So much easier than trying to edit online one by one.

Of course I am immediately running into a issue with the CSV export.  There is no relation to the products.  There is an "identification" which I would guess is a back-end ID of the data, but which doesn't appear on a product export.

This is a problem for all of the proper nouns that should not have been translated in the product titles.... So I'm back to wishing the "fr" fields were included on the product export CSV.

Anyway, this is a good start.

Hello,  I am running into an issue doing the export - import.  I am using Seal Subscriptions app and would like to translate in French some text found in the auto-charge section of the widget.  I have exported into CSV and located the fields (as they don't show up on the Translate and adapt app fields).  I have populate the French wording and saved the file.  I imported the file.   When I switch the store to French, that section is still not translated.

Hello, I have more than 2000 Products and i need to translate them along with their metafields, how would i map the product data to the exported translation file which includes only an unknown id to me ? what i wanted is the file to contain anything unique in the product that is included in the product export file, any clue ?

Hi @Younis-Vitrine , there is not a way to do this via the CSV I'm afraid - metafields and product content are stored separately and there is not a common id between them. Partly this is because product metafields can be used across products. Other than the identification column, all that's unique to a product is its content. We'd be happy to talk further about your use case if you would like.

Hi @richbrown_staff, I hope it's ok if i jump in here. I have the same problems as all the other people in this thread. I have hundreds of products to translate and the automatic solutions don't work well. All the fancy AI powered translation apps look great in theory, but in practice they can't handle proper nouns, will translate the same word in different ways (if it's used for a filter this messes up the whole filter menu) and for french they still struggle with syntax. So I need an easy way to correct translations in bulk and add translations in bulk. The only way I found to bulk-edit translations is the CSV export function of the translate & adapt app. But as you already explained, it's impossible to match the translated fields to their products. I get it that there are reasons for this when it comes to metafields, but why is this not even possible for the product descriptions? All I'm looking for at this point (and I have already lowered my expectations a lot) is a table where I have a column with an identifier for the product (e.g. SKU) and a column with the product description. (Other columns with translatable content would be a plus, of course.) Is this really so hard to produce? If you, or anybody else in this forum, knows how to get that I would be very grateful for a hint. Thank you!

Hi @MMMugg , they appear at the top of the page if you've added a language. If you haven't added a language they won't be there!

there is no such option in Translate & Adapt app.

Hey @Umair975 , it's in Settings > Languages in Shopify admin, rather than in Translate & Adapt. You are right that Translate & Adapt does not have its own CSV feature. To reiterate the point above, you'll only see Export and Import if you have added at least one language to your store.

yes its there but the issue is that export will only give shopify internal product ID which is a headache to connect the translation to the original product/sku
