Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
I'm helping a client with 2 Shopify stores setup with 1 for CA and 1 for USA, currently paying for 2 plans
They are building a new store with 2 markets instead within the CA store, so they only need to pay for 1 plan.
The domain for CA is set to the main domain name, while the USA store has a us. subdomain.
Their Klaviyo is only connected to their CA store only because they did not know how to connect 2 stores in 1 integration (you can't, you need 2 paid acounts).
They want to move all the customer profiles from the USA store plan to the CA store plan, then sync all customers back to Klaviyo to make sure nothing is missing once they launch the new site on the CA store.
Is it possible? How does that work?
Hi @SolutionG
That’s a great question, and I totally get why your client wants to simplify things by merging their two stores into one with separate markets—it saves on costs and makes management easier. Let’s go over how to move everything smoothly.
Right now, your client has two Shopify stores—one for Canada (CA) and one for the USA (US), each with its own plan. They’re switching to a single store (CA) with Shopify Markets handling both regions. Their main domain is for CA, while the US store currently uses a us. subdomain. Plus, their Klaviyo account is only connected to the CA store, so they need to make sure customer profiles from the US store move properly.
Yes, this is totally possible, but there are a few steps to ensure no data is lost when moving customers and syncing everything back to Klaviyo.
Shopify allows you to export customer data as a CSV file.
Before importing to the CA store, you’ll want to check and clean up the data:
Now, upload the cleaned CSV into the CA store:
📌 Note: Shopify will not transfer passwords since they are encrypted. Customers will need to reset their passwords when logging into the new store.
Since Klaviyo is only linked to the CA store, you’ll now want to sync these newly imported customers:
If you want to tag US customers separately in Klaviyo, you can add a column in your CSV (e.g., Market: US) before import, and then create a segment based on that.
Since the US store was using a us. subdomain, you can keep that as a redirect or link it to a market-specific experience in Shopify Markets.
Yes, migrating is possible, but the key is:
If you need extra help, just let me know asap. Thanks

We’ve recently done this on 4 separate occasions. our process is now designed to ensure everything is merged under one shop and im happy to offer a free consultation to anyone who is interested.
Our mist complex project including several apps that also required careful migration:
We migrated the data/subscriptions/loyalty points/order history and customer accounts from the 'smaller' store into the 'bigger store' through a long list of step-by-step tasks that including exporting data, preparing import sheets, and then making sure that the destination store (i.e. the bigger one) is ready for the import. It's not a small feat but definitely worth the hassle when considering how much easier your life is right after. Drop me a message on linkedin if you're still thinking of doing this https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthiascamilleri/
our prices range from €8,000 + depending in complexity. Happy to chat!
