Thank you, Victor. I wanted to add a feature to our website www.ayurmeans.com. When a customer clicks on add to cart button on the product page, they see a popup or something to add more related products to their cart. This will help to improve AOV in our store. Do you have any recommendations?

At the same time, I do not want to slow down the website or mess with the codes.

Hi @NeilBDE,

Okay, great. What you are looking for is not a built-in feature on the Shopify platform, but there are some apps that can help with this. If you have numerous apps all running scripts on your storefront then yes, this can sometimes result in slower loading speeds, but generally if you only use a small number you should not experience any issues. I'd recommend checking out the following apps:

There are a wide variety of apps on the Shopify App Store that offer this sort of functionality, with the above a select few of the apps available. They are all aimed at helping you cross sell your products and increase your AOV.

Dear Victor,

Thank you for your response. These Apps do not have good support. It has been 48 hours since I reached them but no answer from them. Let's say if they create any issue on our store. I need to wait for 2-3 days to get the resolution. Not good.

Can you suggest some which have good and fast support?

Dear Victor,

I hope you are doing good.

I am looking to change my App developer as their support is pathetic. Can you suggest any India-based App developer to convert my Shopify store to Android and IOS Apps?

Thanks

Hi @NeilBDE,

I'm sorry to hear that you've had issues with your current app developer. You can view a list of third-party professionals who specialize in Shopify app development on the Shopify Experts marketplace. I have added a filter so that only developers based in India are shown, although you can remove this if you wish to look for others based elsewhere.

Hi @NishantMehta,

Thank you for getting in touch. This sounds like something you can change in your theme's language editor, which allows you to alter the phrasing and wording of sentences that appear by default in your theme. You can access the editor by first heading to Online Store > Themes, and then pressing the "Edit languages" option from the "Actions" dropdown for the theme in question.

Once you're in the language editor, search for the text you wish to change and you'll be shown a list of places where this text is present. You can then modify the text as you wish:

21-02-42oys-m4lhw

Once you've changed the text, press save and your modifications will be live on the storefront.

I am not able to assist directly with code changes to your theme, although if you are using a Shopify-made theme you may be able to get assistance from our dedicated theme support team. Please contact our support team and they will be able to authenticate you on the store and let you know more on what we can do to help. Hi Victor,

Can you pls eleborate how to change the tax rates from within the state transactions in India for Clothing.

The tax rate is 5% and 12% In India IGST for clothing.

How to change the rates to 2.5% CGST and 2.5% SGST(Same ways 6% CGST and 6% SGST) for a particular state Haryana.

Hi @SAKSHAM1,

Thanks for getting in touch. Is there are specific tax rate for the state of Haryana you're trying to replicate within Shopify, or does this apply to other states? Do you only sell clothing, or other types of products too?

Your best bet may be to use tax overrides, as you're able to set a specific tax rate for individual states for a collection of products. However, you would need to set a flat rate of tax (e.g. 2.5 + 2.5 = 5%) to be charged on this collection rather than multiple tax rates.

Hi @Victor

Facing this issue with the tax amount calculation on the Checkout page. We've set the tax amount to 9% Country Tax (CGST) and 9% Regional Tax (SGST) for a particular state (Karnataka) in India.  For all the other states, we have set it as 18% Regional tax (IGST)instead of Country Tax. So the total tax in all cases, should show up as 18%. This is the same for all products on our store.

However, the tax on the Checkout (Information) Page shows up as only 9%. Only when the state is selected by the consumer, the tax changes to 18%. Given the high value of our items and the fact that tax is not included in pricing, this is becoming a major conversion rate issue as consumers are unhappy about the sudden changes in the total amount, after they fill all the information. Screenshot below.

How can we fix this?

PS : We've set no tax overrides right now.

Before selecting the state, tax showing as 9%.Before selecting the state, tax showing as 9%.

Hi @walnutf,

Thank you for the detailed explanation of your issue and the screenshot you have provided. If I am understanding correctly, the tax rates are calculating correctly, but only when the customer selects the state they are based in at checkout?

If you do not have taxes included in your prices, the correct amount of tax will only be added when the customer has entered in enough information at checkout for our automated tax system to recognize where they are based and what the correct rate of tax to charge is. This is the case even if all orders should come with an 18% rate of tax on the order, as the system will calculate this figure in different ways. Based on your explanations, it will charge a 9% CGST rate and a 9% SGST tax rate for the state of Karnataka and a flat 18% IGST rate for all other states. This results in the same total tax percentage but it is calculated in different ways. More information about GST in India can be found here.

It is not possible to stop our tax system from behaving in this way, but it may be possible to communicate prior to checkout that all orders will come with an 18% tax rate. One way of doing this would be to change the wording on your cart page using our language editor to include this information; you could also add notes to your product pages and your FAQs page.

I hope this helps but please let me know if you have further questions.

Hello everyone,

Which are the best shipping companies in India which can be integrated with Shopify?

Hi @Bombay_Mart,

Shopify allows merchants in India to connect their FedEx and UPS accounts to Shopify and offer live rates from these couriers at checkout, via our carrier-calculated shipping feature. There are also a number of third-party shipping apps that Indian merchants can use to connect to other shipping services; you can find a list of some of them in our dedicated Indian shipping support thread.

Hello @Victor ,

Hi @Bombay_Mart,

You should be able to change the symbol for Rupees in Settings > General, where you'll see a "Store currency" section. Pressing the "Change formatting" button will allow you to edit how currencies appear on your store:

21-03-kk9z1-voqls

If you change all instances of "Rs." here to "₹", this should then be reflected on your store whenever a price or currency is displayed.

Hi @Bombay_Mart,

I wouldn't know how to do this myself as I'm not a theme specialist, however if you're using a Shopify-made theme you can contact our support team and outline your request, which may be something our themes team can help with. If you're using a third-party theme you would need to hire a Shopify Expert to make this change for you.

I did also find this thread where a user outlined the changes they made to their theme's code which helped them do this, so you are free to try and replicate their instructions in your own theme and see if that works.

Hi @Bombay_Mart,

Thank you for getting in touch. If you have not edited the theme code to enable the sale tags, and have just done so via the theme editor, then I believe this is something our themes team may be able to assist with. As you are using a Shopify theme, you are entitled to receive some custom design time from our themes team, who can make small aesthetic changes to your website. I would recommend contacting our support team and detailing to them what you'd like to change, and they can forward your request to our themes team so they can review the requested changes and make them if it is indeed possible.

Hi Viktor, i have created shopify e-commerce website & i am located in UAE. I have my bank accounts and company registration, everything in UAE

For example- I sell ladies purse on my website, and i sell it to any customer located in any country around the world.

Now as per the dropshipping business model, my product supplier or product manufacturer is in India/Indian company.

I have purchased 10 thousand purses from this indian supplier on X price, i paid him his total price + GST in full. I have further done a contract with him that he will store these products for me in his own warehouse, and ship the products on my behalf to any place where & when required, however I will be paying for the shipping price to the shipping agency by myself.

A customer from France, buys 1 purse from my website. I will make a simple invoice to the france customer for the amount he has paid without any taxes(as no taxes are applicable in UAE) and then I tell my indian supplier to ship it to that buyer in France.

Now similarly,  a customer from India buys 1 purse from my website. I tell my indian supplier to ship it to that indian buyer, so what is the GST implication for me as a company based in UAE?

Do i need to get myself registered in India? and if yes, then how can i do that without any physical presence or office in India? Even my supplier is not clear about this theory !

Hi @deepak_dk,

Thank you for getting in touch and for outlining your situation. I do not know the exact answer to this, but I did do a bit of reading and came across this article on the Avalara website. It states the following:

Businesses providing taxable goods or services in India are required to register for GST, and submit monthly returns. A business must register separately in each state where they are selling – there are 29 Indian states.

Businesses must register if their taxable supplies are in excess of INR 2m. For the North East of India it is INR 1m.

Shopify also provides a guide on GST in India, and when to register. Our documentation outlines the following:

In general, GST registration is mandatory if your business meets any of the following conditions:

  • Your turnover in a financial year exceeds Rs 20 lakhs (Rs 10 lakhs for North Eastern and hill states).
  • Your business is registered under an earlier law, such as Service Tax or VAT.
  • You are involved in inter-state supply of goods.
  • You sell on online marketplaces.

This would indicate that businesses selling into India must register for sales tax in each state they are selling into, providing they meed certain thresholds. Please note that I cannot verify the accuracy of this information, or that it necessarily applies to you and your business.

My recommendation would be to consult with a tax professional if you are unsure of your tax obligations in a country you sell into, as they can confirm what these obligations are and when you need to register for sales tax. You can find tax professionals who specialize in Shopify stores on the Experts directory.

Kind regards,

Hi @Victor  I have sorted out my issue with the GST registration. The good thing is that I have got myself registered under GST in India as they have a special provision for GST registrations for companies of Foreign Origin. Now i have an issue. The main currency on my store is US$, i had to choose this currency because the payment gateways in UAE don't accept payments in INR. While i will be selling the products in India, the customers will be charged in US$ at the checkout page. How do i create invoices with GST? because the GST has to be calculated in INR

Is there some app which can automize my invoices with GST along with currency conversion on each order?

Victor
Shopify Staff

Hi @deepak_dk,

I'm glad to hear that you were able to register for GST. If your store's currency is in USD and your receive payouts in USD, then this is what customers will be paying at checkout and how their payments will be displayed in their order confirmations. If you wish to generate separate orders for customers in India in INR, I would recommend checking out these apps:

These are invoicing apps specifically made for the Indian market. I am not 100% sure if they will allow you to convert from USD to INR when generating the invoices, but I would recommend giving them a try and seeing if this is possible.

Thank you for getting back in touch, I hope you're well.

Shopify offers the free Fraud Filter app which you can use to automatically cancel and refund orders that come in from specific IP addresses. However, there are also some third-party apps that allow you to block and redirect visitors based on their IP address—I'd recommend checking out IP Blocker & Country Redirect as well as Traffic Guard.

Hi, so, read all the articles about it, it shows that I can't change my store currency after an order, but there hasn't been any orders since I just started. Apart from that, I can't find any "manage" button in the admin payment settings, to add regions and currencies. I want to change my store currency to USD from INR but, it just won't happen. What should I do?

hey, so, it turns out that Shopify Payments isn't available in India, so that is why we aren't able to manage it. We have to activate third party apps if we want to change currencies for payments. Other than that, about the order, I guess they registered my sample orders as an order too.

Victor

Hi @reemikito,

Yes, the option to change your store's currency will be locked if you have Shopify Payments enabled and/ or you have processed an order on your store. This is because the currency you're able to have on your store is dependent on your Shopify Payments account, and because changing the store's currency may result in unwanted changes merchants are unaware of (e.g. prices do not change in accordance with any exchange rate, so a 10 INR product will become a $10 USD product).

If you've disabled Shopify Payments and are still unable to change your store's currency, please contact our support team. They will be able to authenticate you on the store and allow you to edit the store's default currency.

@Victor I'm starting an ecommerce clothing website globally with a basic Shopify plan from next month in India by integrating with Printful, since I'm integrating with international print on demand services with Indian website, do I need to take any steps to follow like custom duties, Let say if any customer purchase from my website and I don't want my customer to pay charges of custom duties instead I wish to handle for that so what I'm supposed to do? And can you suggest me about the shipping apps to deal with for international? And can I update my website with different currencies based on customer view page as they planning to buy in their currencies? Example: India-INR, Philippines- Peso  ectara, please give me an advice to proceed before start up my business. I really appreciate the help upon this request. Thanks in advance.

Victor

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for getting in touch. In terms of customs duties, this will depend partially on where the products are made and shipped from on Printful's end, and where the customer is. For example, if Printful have a manufacturing location in the US and you sell your products to customers there, you or your customer shouldn't need to pay customs charges as the products are being produced domestically. This is something you'd want to speak to Printful directly about to ensure you know where your products are being made. If you discover that you are selling across borders and may be subject to pay customs duties, you can read more about managing these charges while selling on Shopify.

There are a number of shipping-based apps available to merchants on Shopify, which provide a wide variety of features. Some apps such as Shippo and Shipstation are multi-purpose apps that primarily help you buy shipping labels from a number of different couriers, whereas apps like Better Shipping allow you greater control of your shipping rates. I would recommend browsing the Shopify App Store to see what is available.

In terms of displaying product prices in multiple currencies, you can also do that via apps. There are a large number to choose from and these apps will allow your customers in different countries to browse your store and view your product prices in their currency of choice. Shopify does have its own multi-currency feature which can be used to process payments in different currencies at checkout, however this feature can only be done through Shopify Payments and this gateway is not available in India at this time.

I hope this has explained things for you, but please let me know if you have more questions.

HI Victor,

I have a friend who's dropshipping and her store's located in India. She is looking into selling internationally as well. Does she have to set up her taxes for shipping even though the products are all vis dropshipping? And what currency should she be setting on her store? Would it be okay to put the store currency in USD while the local/primary market is INDIA?

Thanks,

Hazel

Hi @Hazelc2,

If your friend is looking to sell to other regions and countries they'll want to familiarize themselves with the local tax laws there and if they are required to register for tax in those places. In the United States, for example, overseas sellers still need to register for sales taxes in most states if and when they hit certain selling thresholds. More information on this can be found on the Shopify Blog.

They can choose what currency they want to sell in by default, although this may be determined by their payment processor. If they are based in India and receiving payouts to an Indian-based bank account, then they may be required to sell in INR rather than USD. Please note they can still list multiple currencies on the online store regardless of what currency is set to default.
