Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
Hi Everyone,
I am helping my wife with her Shopify account. She presently sells in the UK and has a distribution centre there. We wish to sell from within Kenya via a different distrubtion centre. The majoirty of her normal products will be available however not all. Similarly the products will be priced differently and in an alternative currency. Ideally we would also use a different payment processor so that we can offer a local method of payment unique to Kenya as well as credit cards.
We are not on a Plus plan and dont want to move up becuase of the costs (not sure if this is relevant). I see that Shopify Markets seems to be a recent addition and addresses a number of themes mentioned above.
Can anyone tell me how we can:
1) Create a Kenyan facing store which presented to customers searching within Kenya
2) Hold inventory management for the Kenyan region and importantly on the Kenyan store only show the products that are available in that region
3) Add a different payment processor (Pesapal) that is only used for the Kenyan store
I would be most grateful for your advice. I am relatively new to Shopify and can see its an amazing platform and eager to learn.
Kind regards
If i understand your requirements correctly I think you can follow these
Creating a Kenya-facing store:
Enable Shopify Markets in your admin panel (Settings > Markets)
Add Kenya as a market
Set up market-specific domain/URL
Configure Kenya-specific currency (KES)
Set local language preferences if needed
Managing Kenya-specific inventory:
Go to Settings > Locations and add your Kenyan distribution center
For inventory management:
Create locations for both UK and Kenya warehouses
Assign specific products to each location
Use location-based inventory tracking
Set availability by market in Shopify Markets settings
To show only Kenya-available products:
Use market-specific inventory settings
Products without Kenyan inventory will automatically be hidden from Kenyan customers
Setting up Pesapal for Kenyan payments:
In Settings > Payments, configure market-specific payment methods
Add Pesapal as a payment provider for the Kenyan market
Keep your existing payment methods for UK customers
Set up different payment methods per market
Dear Supporter,
Thank you so very much for your response which was very helpful. We have managed to set up the site according to all of the points you helpfully made. The only exception is that the local payment method (Pesapal) has its own geographical restriction built in which uses the shopify owner's billing address to either permit or restrict access. We could have changed our billing address from a UK one to a Kenyan one however this would have restricted us from using Shopify payments.
Greatly appreciated.
Andrew
have you consider to use any other payment method
