Hey there,

I would like to ask a question: is anyone from Shopify's senior management aware of the huge importance of introducing Shopify Payments in Poland?

Let me quote some statistics:

— 88% of the population in Poland has access to the Internet, and as many as 73% of them are e-commerce users. It gives us a quantity of more or less 21 million of people.

— the e-commerce market is still developing dynamically, it is forecast to be worth USD 48 billion in 2028

— the average value of a shopping basket in Poland is USD 76

— the frequency of online shopping in Poland is 17.7 per year, which is slightly higher than the average in Europe (17.5 per year)

The above figures are taken from the report Ecommerce in Poland in 2023.

The Cross-border e-commerce report shows that 39% of Polish merchants sell outside Poland. In Poland, we have about 60,000 online shops, as it is easy to count, international sales concern about 23,000 online shops.

The data shows that in Poland Shopify is less than 10% of e-commerce shops — that is, only about 2,300 shops in Poland that conduct cross border sales are based on Shopify. As much as 45% of this market belongs to another SaaS platform, the very popular Shoper in Poland.

Objectively, Shopify is obviously a much bigger, more internationally recognised solution. So why do so few Polish merchants choose Shopify?

The answer is one — the lack of Shopify Payments in Poland and therefore the lack of multi-currency.

When running an online shop that sells cross border, multi-currency is a prerequisite. We all know that currency conversions when placing orders deter customers and cause shopping cart abandonment. Currently, the only option for a merchant in Poland to run a cross border shop on Shopify is to create multiple duplicates of the same shop — each with a different base currency. That is, a shop in Euro for markets using that currency, a shop in USD, a shop in SEK, a shop in NOK, a shop in GBP, a shop in PLN, a shop in AUD, a shop in CAD….

Managing something like this is a nightmare, as you can probably guess. This is why Shopify has such a low market share in Poland.

Can someone from Shopify support show this post to the management team? From a business perspective, the introduction of Shopify Payments in Poland, in the context of the huge and growing e-commerce market, offers great opportunities for business development in our country.

On behalf of all merchants in Poland who are looking for a stable, trouble-free, fast, modern and recognisable e-commerce engine, I strongly request you to finally introduce Shopify Payments in our country.

Please feel free to pass this data above and comment (yes, I know that currently nothing is officially known about the introduction of Shopify Payments in Poland…).

what's even worse is that you can't really know about the issue with Shopify payments until you set up your store... what a waist of time.

Is it even legal to charge higher sales fee for not choosing shopify payments when the option is not even available?
