Subdomains and different payout options

Subdomains and different payout options

Hi,

I have a shopify store that sells in 3 different locations. Let's say countries X Y and Z.
If i create 3 subdomains for X Y and Z countries, can I integrate 3 different merchant accounts for same payment service provider?

Ideally, I want the payout of each country's sale to go to their respective bank accounts AS OPPOSED to all payouts being done to one bank account.

Hi @Miraz124

I see what you're trying to do—setting up subdomains for different countries and making sure payouts go to separate bank accounts based on the country of sale. That makes total sense, especially for managing local revenue and tax compliance.

Here's how it works:

Yes, you can set up separate subdomains (e.g., x.yourstore.com, y.yourstore.com, z.yourstore.com) and have different payment providers configured for each. However, Shopify itself does not allow multiple merchant accounts for the same payment provider under one Shopify store. That means, if you’re using Shopify Payments, all transactions will be paid out to one bank account, no matter which subdomain is used.

How to achieve separate payouts:

  1. Use Shopify Markets (Recommended Approach)

    • Instead of subdomains, Shopify Markets lets you manage different countries within a single store and handle different currencies, pricing, and local payment methods. However, Shopify Payments still requires one bank account for payouts.
    • If you want separate bank accounts, you’d need different legal business entities for each country, which Shopify doesn’t support under a single account.
  2. Create Separate Shopify Stores (Best for Different Payouts)

    • If you need payouts to go to different bank accounts per country, the best option is to create separate Shopify stores for each country.
    • Each store will have its own payment settings and merchant account, allowing you to set up separate bank accounts for payouts.
    • Downside: You’ll need to manage multiple Shopify stores separately (extra costs, admin work).
  3. Use Different Payment Providers for Each Subdomain (Workaround)

    • Shopify allows different payment gateways per store but not per subdomain.
    • If you use a third-party gateway (like Stripe, PayPal, etc.), you might be able to register multiple accounts with them and assign different ones per country.
    • Some payment providers allow routing payments based on the customer's location—so it's worth checking with your provider if they support this.

Quick Summary:

  • Shopify Payments does not support multiple bank accounts under one store.
  • The best way to route payments to different accounts is to create separate Shopify stores per country.
  • If using third-party payment providers, check if they allow multiple merchant accounts per store (most don’t).
  • Shopify Markets can help with localized pricing and payment methods, but payouts still go to one account unless you have different legal entities.

Let me know if you need more clarification. Happy to help!

Daisy
