Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
Hello,
I have recently added the German language to our website. Some pages have been translated, but not all.
Because of this, the untranslated pages have a .com and .com/de version, both containing the same English text.
I believe this is negatively impacting my Google ranking. Since adding German, organic traffic has decreased by 70%. Could this be due to internal duplicate content? I assumed Google would handle this correctly on the same website. Or did I miss a setting?
Any help is appreciated!
Hello,
Yes, having both .com and .com/de versions with the same content can lead to duplicate content issues, which might affect your Google ranking. To address this, ensure you’re using proper hreflang tags to indicate language and regional versions to Google. Additionally, check for any canonical tags that might be misconfigured. These steps help Google understand the relationship between your pages and avoid ranking penalties for duplicate content.
