US-based store, selling digital media to Indian customers

I am based in the US (payouts are in USD), but I am targeting an Indian audience, who should be charged in INR. I'm currently only using Shopify Payments because it offers GPay, which many of my Indian customers like to pay in. However, when speaking with some Indian customers, it seems they are not able to make the purchases using GPay, their cards are declined. Could this have something to do with it being international transactions? What is the best payment method or solution to this problem?

Thanks for the reply. Is this something we can fix on our end, or is this something our customers would have to enable on their ends?

Do you know of any way we could get our store classified as domestic to India (even though we are using a U.S.-based bank account) to circumvent this? Alternatively, are there any payment gateways you know of that we could implement that allow for these international transactions?

I don’t think you can fix it at your end.

my suggestion would be to create a dummy product and implement the PayPal checkout instead Shopify’s payment as its services are limited in India.

Indian customers may be able to pay via their debit or credit cards which are enabled for international transactions. Shopify Payments is powered by Stripe which allow customers to pay via debit or credit cards.

I had the same issue. I tested it with two of my debit cards. IT worked for one and it did not go throigh for another. I saw many abandoned carts. 

I believe it has somethignt o do with business debit cards being accepted but not regular ones.

Finally changed the store to accept razorpay payments and no issue. However I had to disable shopify payments for that and lost out on many features. 

I might have to make another store for the USA looks like.

There is another third party payment method i saw with shopfiy payments which had upi facility, but I didnt have an account on that and did not have time to pursue.
