Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
I am a Candian vendor hoping to sell at a convention in the US. WHat is the best way to go about this? Best POS devices etc.
Thank you!
Hi @TSBQ,
Thank you for reaching out and it's great to hear that you're planning on heading to the United States for a convention! I'm sure it's an exciting prospect.
In terms of processing payments it's worth noting that our card readers are region-locked, meaning you could not purchase a card reader from the Canadian Hardware Store to use within the United States. Similarly, if you purchased a card reader from the US Hardware Store, this would not be compatible with your Canadian Shopify Payments account.
A workaround for this would be to create a new Shopify store for use in the US and purchase a card reader from the US Hardware Store. You could use this store just for the POS sales you make in the United States and the card reader would work for you while at the convention.
Alternatively, you could look to rent a card reader from a third-party gateway and create an account with them. You'd need make sure that this account can be used in the United States and that you have a bank account that you can receive payouts into. When you're using an external card reader via the Shopify POS, you can activate custom payments within the Shopify POS app.
I hope this helps but please let me know if you've any questions about this.

Hi Victor, I just came across your comment. Would the new Shopify store for use in the US be under the same email, or a completely separate Shopify account under a different email?
