Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
My website's currency is in US dollars, but every time one of my customer's orders is canceled or refunded, the currency changes to MXN Pesos. We are located in Mexico and our primary Market is set as Mexico but our currency is set as US dollars. Is there a reason why this keeps happening? We wouldn't want there to be some sort of miscommunication with our customers since we don't accept MXN Pesos.
Are you sure that the customers aren't actually buying in MXN? Shopify does currency autoconversion on purchase based on the location that the shipping goes to. You can test it by going into checkout and putting in a Mexican address - the currency changes automatically to MXN. At least this is what I experienced in my own testing. Why the currency of the order changes after state change, I hope someone else knows how to answer.
If you want to allow customers to buy with MXN pesos, but are unable to refund in that currency in cash, you can use apps that help you provide store credit refunds instead of cash. I just recently created one such app, if it is of use to you. I can help adjust it to your needs. https://apps.shopify.com/neat-credit
I just tried it out and the total comes out in USD but once I place the order and go back to view the products, the currency is changed to MXN Pesos. So everything is right up until the order is placed, refunded, or canceled.
Do you have any add-ons that might do some automatic geolocation operations?
Are all orders converted to MXN or only the ones that ship to Mexico? What happens if you put in a US-address?
