Global expansion, localizing content, and selling in multiple currencies and languages
Client works in multiple markets / countries. However, they've been told due to trademarks that one country needs different branding and domain name. So they will create 5 products, essentially the same as original products, but with different packaging. My understanding is that it's easy to point a market at a different domain name using one store and then limit that market to just those 5 new products (and hide them from other markets) - correct me if I'm wrong!
So my question is if it's crazy to do this? I'm hoping a translation app could reword the homepage and other pages, plus change the logo / meta for that domain, but what about messages to customers like welcome emails, purchase emails etc. to avoid use of the infringing brand wording.
Anyone done this successfully? (If yes, any apps that do all the translations properly - or even a dynamic find/replace based on region eeeek).
Or should I just duplicate the store?
Note that they use a warehouse app, so quite a few moving parts would need to be duplicated too.
Cheers for any advice.
Hi @devatttd,
Thank you for getting in touch and outlining your client's situation. I believe what they are looking for should be possible using Shopify Markets.
Firstly, your client can use international domains on their store as they sell in multiple countries and regions. Each domain added to the store can have its own dedicated language and currency, and helps create a localized shopping experience. Merchants can use also shipping profiles to limit which products are sold to where.
In terms of creating custom content for each country and region they sell to, this can be achieved using our new Translate & Adapt app. The app can be used to create different copy for customers in different regions, which should allow your client to amend their branding depending on where the customer is visiting from. I would recommend installing the app and giving it a try to see if all of the necessary translations can be made; we've further instructions on how the app works over on the Shopify Help Center.
I hope this helps but please let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Victor. The Translate and Adapt app specifically says it doesn't translate media, so I'm wondering how to change the logo for the new market, and other images on the homepage.
Hi @devatttd,
Yes, that is correct. One of the limitations of the Translate and Adapt app at this time is that the custom content you can create using it applies only to text-based content, and it cannot be used to translate media such as images or videos.
If this is something that cannot be worked around, and that the site's logo must be different on each regional site, then the best avenue for your client might be to open multiple stores. This would allow them complete freedom over how the site looks and the regional differences they are looking for for each version of the site can be achieved.
As your client is using a warehousing app, you'd want to confirm with them how their service operates when you're using multiple stores. If you've any questions about how running multiple regional stores works on Shopify, please let me know.

I think I've found an app that will do logo etc too, so will report back once tested - this won't be for a few weeks though. Cheers for the advice. Keep up the good work 🙂
Hi @devatttd,
My pleasure! I'm glad to hear that you've found an app that may work. Please feel free to get back in touch if you've any further questions.
