customer/update Webhook and Metafields

Does the customer/update webhook get triggered when a customer metafields is created or changed?

It seems customer/update webhooks do NOT fire after metafields are updated. 

I just ran into this trying to tag a customer after metafields are updated through the Metafields2 app's endpoint.

This doesn't seem to be documented. There are a couple other commenters experiencing it in this thread.
