Adding products in draft theme without showing up in live?

I've been trying to figure out how to add products to a draft theme without impacting my live, published theme. Only problem is that I can't do this in the theme, I have to do it in the 'Navigation' tab which then shows up in my live store. I want to be able to add all my products, test how they look, and do some test checkouts without all of this appearing on my live store. Help!
