Metafields In Collections

Does anyone have any kind of indication as to when custom metafields will be available via the Shopify admin system? It's been saying "soon" for a while. It looks like the functionality exists internally (via some of the apis) but not in the main admin system.

I keep reading that Shopify can't be relied upon for any kind of useful roadmaps etc. but I have an open mind so if anyone knows of any lead on such info it would be great to see.  My hours of searching are coming up empty.

I contacted support few weeks ago and they told me that they're supposed to launch Metafields Collections before the end of 2021.
