Will Shopify free themes be updated to 2.0?

I have a client with a Venture-themed store. I need to create another store with the same theme and I'd like to use the Online Store 2.0 architecture.

I can make Dawn look like Venture but, if I wait, will there be a 2.0 version of Venture? If not, what will be the recommended upgrade path for shops on free 1.0 themes to move to 2.0?

Online Store 2.0 (OS2.0) features are available on the store itself, but the older themes aren't built to use those new features. At this time, there are no plans to upgrade the older free Shopify themes to work with OS2.0.  You could customize the code of the existing themes you have or update to an OS2.0 theme. Dawn is available for free and can be customized to look the way you need it to. Alternatively, there are a number of third-party themes in the theme store that support OS2.0.
