When I d/l the theme "dawn"or other themes for that matter and "customize" on the Shopify platform everything looks fine, however when I open on my phone or a separate url the website is distorted beyond recognition. I've cleared my cache several times, deleted the theme and reinstalled to no avail, HELP PLEASE 😞

If this is happening with multiple different themes (so you know it's not the theme), then I would suggest looking at your apps. You may be using an app that has coding errors, which is causing the site to break. Try removing whichever apps, one at a time, and seeing if the issue goes away.
If you're not using any apps, then I would recommend reaching out to Shopify's support team directly, for further help troubleshooting.

All I ever downloaded was the theme(s,) no apps downloaded. I barely started the site a couple of weeks ago. Do you think this is a hosting issue, my domain is registered at Hostgator. Thanks for helping!
Hosting is done by Shopify directly, so as long as your domain name is setup correctly (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/add-a-domain/connecting-domains/connect-domain-manual) then it really shouldn't have any affect on the way the actual website looks.
If you're not using any apps, and you've added the theme directly from the Shopify theme store (rather than uploading a 'bootleg' copy manually), then there really shouldn't be any issues with the site loading correctly.
I could try taking a look for you, if you want to reach out to me via email directly **Edited by Community Moderator**. What I would do is double-check that the DNS records are set correctly, and then add a fresh copy of a theme from the theme store, publish that new copy of the theme, and see if the site loads correctly or not. If it doesn't, then you'd need to reach out to Shopify's support directly.

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I ended contacting customer support after trying your suggestions to no avail. Somehow they said I had done everything correctly, they didn't offer any solutions I'm aware of, but the site began working while I was in chat with them. Thanks a million, much appreciated for taking the time.
