Easiest way to create Metafields for Pages

Does anyone know how to make metafields for pages? There doesn't appear to be any front end support for it. It appears only products and a few others have a front-end metafield creator but it appears you have to use the API to create metafields for pages.

Is the API the only way to make metafields for pages? If so what is the easiest way to do it?

Creating metafields via the API seems kinda extreme, but it will definitely work.

Luckily, there's a more efficient option -- you can do that using a third-party app.
