A space to discuss online store customization, theme development, and Liquid templating.
Perhaps I missed it but I don't see any way to enable the sections everywhere. I've created a new experimental dev store with Unite 2019 selected. It comes with a Debut and Dev Preview theme. Both of these themes appear to be using the old snippets-style paradigm.
Are there steps I need to perform to enable sections everywhere?
Thanks,
Tom

They took down the developer preview and I believe the CTO Jean-Michel Lemieux mentioned in a partner town hall (maybe in this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mju7MZFnt7s) that Sections Everywhere was going back in the oven to bake.
My take on it, sections everywhere is not happening anytime soon.

Any thoughts on when the ui will roll out? Or an example theme?

There's no enabling, as there's no UI yet, and Debut doesn't have the new sections built in.
As far as I get, there is no way right now to test those new features, right?
Because if there is no way to get updated UI in the Customize Editor, then there is no full testing experience.
Hope all features will be roll on soon.
"You should be able to create new directories in your theme". Is this suggesting that we should be able to add directories to a pre-existing theme like "pages" or "frame" and it will honor the new functionality?
Hey Jon,
So you can add the new directories to a pre-existing theme, and upload it this to a developer preview store and test out the new content model and section schema format, on a code level. However, you won't be able to work with sections on all pages until the new UI is launched later this year. Keep in mind too, that currently the new file directory is only compatible with developer preview stores.
Hope this helps Jon!

Any idea when this will roll out? I last read that it should roll out later this year, but I see that this year is nearly over.
Still no updates on this topic?
Hi there @TheWineStore ,
It's now possible to access the new online store editor UI, and add sections to product pages using a developer preview store, and the sections-compatible version of Debut. You can learn all about the features and functionality of the developer preview on this forum post.
Cheers,
Liam

Hey Liam,
Any clues when this will be live for merchants
It was supposed to be "later this year" in 2019 😉
Hi @Mateusz3
I can't give an exact date, but the merchant launch of the new Online Store Design Experience will be in 2020. In the meantime, we'll be adding more functionality to the developer preview where you can test out the new sections types, and prepare your themes and apps for the merchant launch. You can keep track of the updates over on our developer changelog, or keep tuned to this subforum.
Hope this helps,
Liam

Hey @Liam
Any update on the new UI for sections everywhere? I bought the Startup template expecting the have the same level of control over all pages on the website, not just the Home page. Do you guys have an expected release for non-developers? Thanks, -Nick
Hi @nickallen
As the new Online Store Editor, and sections architecture are still being built out, we don't have an expected release date for merchants. I will be sure to update here when there is news on an expected launch date, and for non-developer announcements for this feature, you can check the merchant-facing changelog.
Hope this helps Nick,

Hi Liam,
I am testing this new UI in the Developer Preview and frankly there isn't much to see. Only works on product pages and there are no sections to adjust at all.
When you say (in January - its now July) that you will be adding more functionality in 2020 - I'm wondering what on Earth was available in January. There's virtually nothing to see. Feels like this is a loooooong way off. This new functionality has been promised since 2019 and it is already half way through 2020.
Please can someone at Shopify let people know real timelines - we can deal with delays but not misdirection
Thanks,
Toby Write
Yeah - totally agree. We've been waiting on this forever and a week now. Come on guys n gals in Shopify.
Trying to build a suite of commercial themes...not wanting to use old sections...but been dragging on now for a year. Not really what I'd call agile. A lot of Shopify's newer functionality has been a flop.
Also stopped mentioning this functionality to clients as it's plain and simple bad for our business (why would someone invest in a new custom build this year if this functionality is being released? they wouldn't.)
To be fair though sections themselves (v1) were rolled out without much architectural thought or planning (at least, to my mind). They made life easier but were a million miles from what's needed and this was plain from day 1.
My only hope is that they're busy trying to get it right once - so it's future proof/sensible/flexible. And kinda gives us + merchants what's need.
I'm shelving this project for another 6 months. Working on an app instead.
I remember two Unite's ago, when I was thinking "Oh boy I better sit down and learn that, it's going to be huge!"
2020 is dwindling. Will Sections Everywhere still launch this year? Pretty please? 😊

I was getting the same feeling. Thanks for the reply!
@TomDavies @jacobgraf what is your prediction for sections everywhere?
2022?
A quarter of the way through 2021, still no sections everywhere...
Would this delay mean it's safe for me to start to build a new theme based on the current Debut now? I don't want to end up needing to redo the whole thing in 2 months.
@LostPer
I reckon you'd be silly to build anything off that tbh.
Made the same mistake about errr...18 months ago. I forget...could be two years.
If it's a one off theme just use regular sections and accentuate metafields for the flexibility you need.
I ment for my self. I got a store today, built on a 3rd party theme, but as those usually contains 2000 settings I don't need or use, it's a mess to update and feel a little slow. But I do like how it looks and perform. My plan was to rebuild what I got, but into a new clean code base I control and then duplicate that into 4 other stores I have.
Just don't want to spend a week building ontop of Debut (as an example) and end up in 8 weeks having to redo the whole thing.
hey @Liam .
Any updates about it?
Just don't want to spend a month building a website and end up in 2 months having to redo the whole thing...
Thanks
It's 2021 and this still isn't implemented for custom pages.
Online Store 2.0 - you can have sections everywhere
I am using shoptify for my website for best paints in UK. Can someone guide for a problem?
