Metafield multi-select options

Hi,

In online store 2.0 how can we configure metafield with multi-select options?

Context: We sell books online. We are using the older version of warehouse theme and planning to upgrade to version 2.0. As of now, we have tags like Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 etc. Each book can be suitable for multiple grades so we select Year 1, Year 2 for one book when entering details of the products in Shopify. In the new version we would like to use the storefront filter using metafields. For eg. we want to configure a metafield called GRADE and have multi-select options where we can select two or more years for one book...say Year 1, Year 2.... so that in our store when a customer selects Year 1 or Year 2 in both cases this particular book should show up in the filter results. As of now we can select only one option for the metafield GRADE but not multiple for one product. 

Is there any way to do this or any workaround without custom coding?

@MichaelDC  Im looking for the same solution.  I sell one product that can fit multiple items and I would like to metatag each of those items to my product so a customer can filter by the item they own to see if my product fits.

It looks like Shopify has recently solved this problem in their April 6th changelog by allowing to create multiple values for the single line text field.

This should work out of the box for all 2.0 themes.
