Can you start a Shopify storefront dedicated to selling Shopify themes? Essentially, do you have to become a Shopify partner like is it required in order to sell themes on Shopify?

Hi Marshathemellow,

You don't need to be a Shopify Partner to sell Shopify themes, however selling unlicensed Shopify Themes is against our terms of service so selling any themes that are in the Shopify Theme Store would be prohibited.

I would be making my own Shopify themes not using or selling anyone else’s. Would that still be considered against the terms of service? Also, wouldn’t I own the rights to the themes that I’m developing allowing me to grant specific licensure (whether commercial or personal use) to the customers that buy from me? Just would like some more clarification as to how this works.

Hi again Marshathemellow,

If you're developing your own themes from scratch, then it should be okay to sell these on a Shopify store and use your own licensing and distribution process.
