Unable to connect domain (between shopify stores)

Hi There,

I have bought a Domain ".com" from Shopify at the start but I don't know why it created 2 different stores. After I almost finished building one store I found out that the domain '.com' was in the wrong store, so I transferred to the right one. In the domain settings, it says connected. But when I preview or go to URL it says page not found.

Does anyone know what the issue is? I understand that from third-party transfers it would take up to 10 days? but between Shopify stores, the change would be right away?

Cheers

Hey @Thiagoak,

I'll be happy to help you out with this.

Firstly, ensure that you followed the instructions listed in our "Domain transfer between Shopify stores" guide:

Once completing all the steps mentioned above, the domain transfer will complete within 24 hours. If you are seeing a green connected message next to your domain then that means the transfer was successful.

Secondly, ensure that the domain has been set as your primary domain. Your primary domain is the domain name that's displayed in the address bar while customers browse your online store. Are you currently only able to access your website through your myshopifyURL (your-store-name.myshopify.com)? which is the default domain you created when you sign up for Shopify.

Please follow the steps below to ensure your new custom domain is set as your primary domain:

  • From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Domains.

  • In the Primary domain section, click Change primary domain.

  • Select the domain that you want to set as your primary domain.

  • Click Save.

The primary domain that you set is now displayed to customers who visit your online store. For further guidance, I have attached our useful instructional help docs below:

If you are still unable to preview or access your store after following the suggestions above, we’ll need to access your account in order to resolve this issue. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback.

Hi Moira,

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

I have followed all the steps you have mentioned but am still not able to preview or access the domain '.com' I bought. I can preview the store only when I switch to myshopifyURL (your-store-name.myshopify.com).

Hi there,

Just wanted to come here and let you know the issues were solved!

The main problem was that my internet connection/wifi was blocking the domain and it was storing the old version of the store and not refreshing it correctly.

It was solved when I reset the wifi modem.

Cheers

That's great to hear @Thiagoak,

If you find restarting your router does not fix similar errors you may come across in the future, try clearing your browser cache and make sure you are operating on the latest version of Google Chrome. When you use a browser, like Chrome, it saves some information from websites in its cache and cookies. Clearing them fixes certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites!

Don't hesitate to reach back out if you require any further assistance as you continue to work on your store.

All the best,
