Add Custom payment gateway

Hello, I am dealing with the documentation but cannot understand.

I need to add my own custom payment gateway for cardstream ( https://cardstream.com/ ) using direct payment method with my own api integration

Can I do this or only those that are available out of the box?

Could you suggest links to the documentation where it is written in more detail?
