Adding Packaging to order as an item before fulfilment

Hello,

 

The situation is as follows. An order is captured in shopify and is sent to a 3rd party fulfilment warehouse via an app integration (called WICS). We have a standard box in which to put the products. But I want them to use another box for certain countries.

 

So I would like to edit the order automatically and add the right packaging as an item, based on the delivery country that the customer enters during ordering.  The box item should be added after checkout (the customer does not need to see this) but before the order is sent to the 3rd party.

 

Who can help me point in the right direction to a solution that can do this?

People use Order Automator to do similar automations.

 

For example, for your situation it could do this:

1. New order comes in and shipping country = a country you want a different box

 

2a. The app then edits the order to add that information. It could add the box "product" if it's saved as a product in your store.

2b. Another option, if you don't want to add a product to the order, is to have it edit the order notes or add a tag to the order.

 

3. Find out when your fulfillment service syncs orders. For example, if they sync right away when a new order comes in, ask them to delay a minute or something to allow the order to be edited first.

Hello,

 

I have seen that app but it only stated the following:

 

  •  

    Auto tag orders and customers to organize + filter + export for marketing
  •  

    Auto fulfill line items (digital products, trigger 3rd party requests, etc)
  •  

    Amazon FBA integration in any marketplace to sync inventory + fulfill orders
  •  

    Auto send email notifications to vendors or staff based on order conditions
  •  

    Prevent fraudulent orders by auto cancelling or getting notified by email

So it does not explain that it can also automatically change orders. But if you say that it is possible I will have a look.

Shopify has limited space to what can be published on the app store, so just the most common features are listed.

 

Order Automator is a different type of app, in that it's extendable and customizable, so stuff like this that's 1-off requests you can contact https://orderautomator.com/contact with your store url and what you want to do exactly and support will take care of you.

 

Maybe we should add that extendable customization part as a key feature on the app page, good point 🙂

I think you can accomplish this using Shopify Flow app. Create a workflow: Order created, check if country equals to XX, then add order tag or order note (to add info about the new box).

Hello, YOD_Solutions

 

Sadly my fulfilment company does not accept order Tags or Order notes. It has to be a line item on the the order.

Hello,

 

yes I have tried that but the webhook of the Fulfilment software is to fast. Effective on order creation. The result is that the order line is added in shopify but not in  the fulfilment platform. 

 

And on top of that shopify does not allow order created by third party apps to be edited. Which is wierd, because that limits my order management in general.

This is EXACTLY what my app is built to do with 3rd party fulfillment in mind! We do everything based on item and packaging dimension so that will be important to know. If you have very few SKUs you can also configure specific rules to add the right packaging.

 

You mentioned a problem with the order importing before your item gets added. My professional background is in 3rd Party Logistics, and most providers should be able to add a short delay before importing the order. A lot of merchants want 30 minutes to make sure an order is not fraudulent or similar before fulfilling so I would ask about that.
