Hello.

 

I am not a shop runner, but rather a person with and edge case when attempting to buy from multiple Shopify shops using ApplePay. This fails constantly and myself and the shops have no idea what to do and can't seem to get Shopify support. I have tried to reach out to Shopify directly as the game of telephone between me and the shop owners can get frustrating for all involved; even going as far as to make this Shopify account and open a fake store, but even then it seems impossible to open a ticket. I only have the issue with Shopify shops. And and all other ApplePay transactions on other platforms and stores works without issue.

 

So, I turn to the community boards in the hope that someone at Shopify is looking.

 

Here is the issue:

  • I live in a small CA town.
  • The Zip Code covers areas that are both in the county and city
  • The county and city have different tax rates
  • When I attempt to checkout using ApplePay, the process enters only my Zip Code into the shop's billing address fields.
  • This generates a cost in the captive ApplePay window
  • When I use Touch/FaceID to approve the purchase, the fully qualified address is entered into the billing form
  • Because Shopify uses the lower tax rate when the ApplePay window first appears, entering in my full street address triggers it to increase the taxes (as it should)
  • The change is price cause's the ApplePay captive window to fail the transaction (as it should)

 

My hope is there can be a simple way that when ApplePay is initiated by buyers their full address can be entered into the billing fields the first time to ensure the taxes are correct before confirming the purchase using Touch/FaceID as any changes to the price will fail ApplePay to protect the customer.

 

Anyone from Shopify is welcome to contact me as I can recreate this on about half a dozen shops. The shop runners are confused and I frustratingly can't take advantage of streamlined purchasing.
