Can a customer pay an invoice or draft order with a gift card?

A customer came into the store and made a custom order, which I make a (physical, paper) manual order for and plan to email her an invoice later (my usual process). She says she was gifted a gift card to my shop and wants to use it for this order. So my question is: can she use a gift card to pay an emailed invoice? If no, what's a good work-around for this? I'd hate to ask her to come back into the shop, so a remote solution is needed.

I would probably ask the customer if she can take a photo of the gift card and text it to me. I'd then create a custom sale in my POS for the invoice amount, and reference the draft order in the notes. I'd scan the QR code to accept payment. Then, I'd go to the draft order, put 100% discount on it (so the sale doesn't hit the books, twice), and mark it as paid.

Probably not an ideal way to do it, but it's definitely a workaround that would prevent you from inconveniencing your customer 🙂
