Can I limit Cash on Delivery option to local orders only?

Hi Everyone,

I added the Cash On Delivery option in my shop,

but was wondering if there's a way to make the COD option available only for local orders,

I don't want international orders to have the COD option in checkout.

is there a way to do so?

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to restrict any payment method in Shopify based on any condition. All payment methods in Shopify are global, which means that they are shown to all customers who can make a purchase on your store and you cannot show them only based on specific conditions such as the shipping method selected by the customer.

This restriction does not apply to Shopify Plus stores, so unless your store is using Shopify Plus you have no option to do this, you will have to manually cancel orders that have the wrong shipping method.

Something that can help could be adding a note to your COD payment method message saying "Cash on Delivery is ONLY available if you are located in city XYZ". You can do this by opening your Shopify Settings > Payments > scroll down a lot > click on the "Manage" button on the Cash on Delivery payment method > write your message on the popup that appears

Yes, you can limit the Cash On Delivery option available only for local orders through the PayRules: Hide Payment Methods app. To hide the Cash on Delivery option for international orders, you need to follow the steps below:

1. Choose Cash on Delivery from the Select payment methods field.
2. Choose Hide if not found then select your country (Canada for an example) under the Countries field like the screenshot.

Now according to the above example screenshot, the customers from Canada can only see the COD option at the checkout page.
