Can I manually ship an order and add the tracking number later?

Hello! I am trying to fulfill my first order in my shop. I set the weight for my product which is 16g or 0.035lbs. 

When I go to create the shipping label it wants me to pay like $10 or more to ship. It barely weighs anything and I can ship it in the smallest padded envelope. I know it will cost me $5 or less to go pay and ship it in person and have them create the label. The person that bought it is local and literally lives in my town so it is going like 30min away from my current address. They chose economy shipping and that was calculated by Shopify to $4.90. 

I suppose I am asking if it would be okay for me to just go ship it in person without the label and then add the tracking number to the fulfillment spot. I am more old school, for being young and would prefer to do it that way. So is there any reason I cannot go that route?

Congrats on your first order! You can absolutely ship the order in person—you are not required to buy a label with Shopify Shipping.

I understand if you want to get this order out as soon as possible, but when you have a moment, I recommend reviewing your shipping settings for future orders. Ideally, the shipping rate that a customer pays at checkout should match the rate when you purchase a label in your admin.

I think there might be a discrepancy between the default package in your shipping settings and the package that was selected when you were purchasing a label. A couple other factors that may come into play here are whether your store converts multiple currencies, and whether there are any third-party rates displayed at checkout.
