Can I sell as an individual on an online platform without a registered company?

Hello,

can I sell on Shopify without registered company? I live in Slovenia and I'm wondering if I can sell as an individual.

If yes, how can I set up my payments correctly? 

Also, is there a limit of revenue for it?

Thanks for reaching out. 

That is a great question! When you use Shopify, it does not require you to have a registered business to create an online store. Shopify enables individuals to easily create and manage an online store without the need of a registered business. 

In regards to setting up the payments, the availability of the payment gateways is dependent on where you are generally located. We do have a great article that displays the available third-party payment providers for each location available here. Since each payment gateway will have different policies in place, I would suggest inquiring on the limit of revenue to the payment gateway that you would like to use. They are in the best position to provide you with further support.

You can just

• Form a US LLC
• Get your EIN from IRS.gov
• Apply for an account from a Fintech company
• Then use Shopify Payments

In Slovenia, an individual without a company can operate as a sole proprietor and use shopify to sell their products. 

Payments

• Use Shopify Payments: Link your Slovenian bank account (EUR) and personal tax number (“davčna številka”). You can do this in Settings > Payments.
• Alternatives: PayPal or Stripe for individuals too
• Report income to Slovenian tax authorities (FURS).

Taxes and Limits

• VAT: No need to register for VAT if revenues do not exceed €50,000; at greater amounts – with FURS and at the rate of 22% or 9.5% VAT.
• Income Tax: Personal income at 16%-50% rate.
• Revenue: Shopify has no ceiling price on commodities; nonetheless cross-border e-commerce legislation involving VAT becomes applicable from €50,001 and high income may require social security contributions over e.g. €12,513.96

• Personalize your Shopify account
• Monitor turnover and if it goes above 50,000
