Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi,
I'd like to use Stripe for payments on my Shopify website, I've seen conflicting information on this. One post suggested I could contact support and they would add the option. Again this has been asked many times through discussion threads and it appears nothing is being done to create this option of using stripe.
I know shopify is going to come back and say 'Shopify payments is powered by Stripe and therefore the same', however Shopify payments are so limited compared to the Stripe payment platform. For example using the Stripe platform i can activate WeChat pay and Alipay as options. You can not do this in Shopify payments!! So Shopify wants me to add another third party payment provider to add these payment options while i could do all of them through Stripe!
Come on Shopify give your customers the flexibility and options to choose the payment platform they want to use. Better still, implement all the options Stripe provide through the Shopify payments.
I hope this is sorted soon otherwise i am moving to another ecommerce site.
Cheers
Hi, @Healthy-100.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us here in the Community Forums.
You're correct in saying that Shopify Payments is indeed powered by Stripe, however I understand and am aware that Stripe does offer features within their gateway that aren't currently offered on Shopify Payments. Because of this, if you're a merchant based in a country where Shopify Payments is offered, you're welcome to contact our live support team so that we can escalate your request to the Shopify Payments team for them to consider enabling the Stripe payment gateway on your store. From there, our Shopify Payments team can review your account and proceed to enable the Stripe option on your store, if and where applicable. Keep in mind that this process involves a manual review from our internal Shopify Payments team, so you won't be able to simply contact our live support team to enable this option straight away on your store.
If you're still interested in using Stripe on your store, to get the review process started please contact our live support team via our Help Center here so that we can authenticate you against the correct account. Once logged in, select a topic that best fits your query or situation. From there, you'll be taken to a page with a list of relevant support articles, and you can scroll to the bottom of that page to select your preferred contact method with our team. Our live support team will be able to assist you further from there.
In the meantime, I'll also leave your feedback to the relevant development team, so that they're aware of the growing needs in adding further features to our Shopify Payments product. While we can't guarantee if or when a feature will be implemented, you can check our Changelog here for the most up-to-date releases to our platform.

Hi Kimi,
Thanks for your reply! I have already done what you suggested in your reply. I contacted the live chat under the Third-party Payment providers and explained exactly what I outlined in my message above. This was the final response I got from Jared M. a Shopify support adviser;
00:53 Jared M. (Support Advisor): I got you. Upon checking, Stripe is yet to be added as supported payment gateways for merchants under Australia. You can check this help doc, Australia Payment Gateways to Accept Customer Payments to see what payment methods are available to you.
00:54 Jared M. (Support Advisor): It would be great to have this feature on our platform. I can go ahead and put in a request to our developers. It's merchants like you who make the platform better for everybody. We take the feedback of value merchants seriously and consider requests for future updates. If this becomes available in Shopify, you will see it posted here: Shopify Changelog
As you can see this person had no idea what you are telling me was possible, and therefore could not help me further!
In my personal opinion, I thought it would be more appropriate that when a question like what I posted here on the community forum was seen by someone from Shopify, like yourself, that it would be forwarded to the relevant team to contact me to start the process. Again, I guess I can try again, but I really shouldn't have too. This is just more wasted time!
Thanks for the added context, @Healthy-100.
I apologize that the Support Advisor you were speaking with didn't follow through with an escalation of your request to our Shopify Payments team, or at least queried your request with them. While I know that your initial attempt at contacting our team wasn't ideal, we'd love to have another try at assisting you. As much as I'd like to directly help you here via the Community Forums, at this stage there isn't a way for us to securely authenticate merchants against the correct store. We can only do this via the Help Center link I sent through in my initial reply, which will then allow you to be connected with one of our Support Advisors.
I understand that you may have reservations about contacting our live support team once more, though I can assure you that all of our team members intend to help as best as we can. As an escalation to the Shopify Payments team should be your next step here, when you're speaking with the next Support Advisor you can give them the following summary of your issue to help them effectively proceed with the most appropriate next steps:
TL;DR: Would like to request an escalation to the Shopify Payments team for them to consider enabling Stripe on my account. Shopify Payments doesn't currently offer the feature of enabling WeChat Pay and Alipay as options, while Stripe does. Have spoken with a Shopify Community Staff member in regards to the situation via this link: https://bit.ly/3IJn8yP.
Again, I apologize for the run around here, and I appreciate your continued patience and understanding.
