Re: Shopify Payments - Rebilling?

Can Shopify Payments adjust orders without re-authentication?

We are porting over to Shopify from Woocommerce.  Our current payment processor is Authorize.net.  One feature we appreciate is that when a customer has already paid for an order, often they call in and want us to make a change to the order.  If the order was recently placed, Authorize does not require a re-authentication from the customer -- we can simply modify the order and the change is made (up or down, depending on what the customer told us.)

Is this available in Shopify Payments or do we have to get the authorization (other than the verbal from the customer at the time) for any change?

Good question, I hope to see an answer...but why did you leave WC?

The entire system felt fragile.  We had so many plugins, many of which were hard to keep up-to-date.  At the end of the day, when you have plugins that plug in to a plugin for what is essentially a blog system, you're bound to have code fragility.

There was a recent UPS vulnerability patch that crashed our site.  Our options were 1) wait for the revised patch or 2) sort through the code to find the conflict or 3) leave our customers vulnerable.  We opted for 2 but the constant drain on our tech resources for this sort of thing made the case for the shift.  Sure, we traded PHP for Liquid, but the learning curve isn't that bad.   Our tech team did a proof-of-concept to evaluate and find the value.  After that eval, it was a clear choice.

We even considered netsuite but at this point, we didn't want to commit to their ecosystem.  Shopify seemed like a nice landing place for the near term.

Good points...

Shopify covers most of what I dont wanna deal with.

But...going in to fix/adjust shipping costs once they are known is huge for me...

I guess I'm ok until someone orders an engine block..but...dang..

I dont think Ive ever seen a policy where "if it costs more, please promise to log into purchase shipping later".

I know that a great majority of things you might get from me..fit in a USPS flat rate large box..and I think that will be my default ground boat shipping method...and...IMHO, the only shipping method because I get get a ton of data on individual parts and fitments from the Mauf, but no weights or dimensions.

We negotiated our own shipping rates with UPS and FedEx because we have some seriously heavy product (not on the level of an engine block, but not inconsiderable) and are not using Shopify for shipping.  We may in the future, but for now we're sticking with Shipstation.
